Mercury presents Bach's 'St. Matthew Passion', 3/10

This spring, Mercury proudly presents 'one of the greatest artistic achievements in history' at Stude Concert Hall. A profound, beautiful and moving masterpiece, it, as well as other works by Johann Sebastian Bach, have inspired such world-renowned artists as The Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel. On March 10th, Mercury brings music and voice together to present the St. Matthew Passion, BWV 244.

Los Angeles Master Chorale 2018/19 Season Prominently Features L.A. Composers

Los Angeles composers feature prominently in the Los Angeles Master Chorale's 55th concert season announced today by Grant Gershon, Kiki and David Gindler Artistic Director, and Jean Davidson, President and CEO. The contemporary works include the world premiere of Eric Whitacre's The Sacred Veil and the West Coast premiere of Reena Esmail's This Love Between Us: Prayers for Unity. All concerts will be performed in Walt Disney Concert Hall where the Master Chorale is choir-in-residence.

The Chamber Orchestra To Feature All Baroque With Improvisations

A founding resident company of The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia (COP) announces its fourth concert in their Improvisionaries season: Brillhart: All Baroque. For this concert, COP will present one of the world's leading improvisers on the keyboard, Philadelphia's Jeffery Brillhart, as he conducts and plays music of J.S. and C.P.E Bach, and Rameau. In addition to spotlighting the Baroque art of figured bass, embellishment and ornamentation, Brillhart will perform his own improvisations on themes heard in the concert as a centerpiece of the program.

Martha Argerich Withdraws From Recital at Carnegie Hall

Carnegie Hall today announced that pianist Martha Argerich has withdrawn from her duo-recital with violinist Itzhak Perlman on Thursday, March 22 at 8:00 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. Ms. Argerich-who was scheduled to perform at Carnegie Hall as part of a six-concert US tour-has withdrawn from all upcoming US tour engagements this spring due to family and health problems. "I am very sorry having to cancel my upcoming tour in the United States with Itzhak Perlman, whom I deeply admire and with whom I love playing," said Ms. Argerich. "Because of family and health problems, I cannot for the moment travel far and for extensive periods of time away from my home in Europe. Thank you very, very much for your understanding."

Boston Ballet Presents PARTS IN SUITE

Boston Ballet's spring season opens with Parts In Suite, a program of works by three of today's most prolific choreographers: William Forsythe, Justin Peck, and Jorma Elo. The program opens with Elo's Bach Cello Suites with live musical accompaniment by cellist Sergey Antonov. In Creases marks the Company's debut in a work by New York City Ballet Resident Choreographer Justin Peck. Embarking on the second year of a five-year partnership with Forsythe, Boston Ballet presents the Company premiere of his Pas/Parts 2016. Parts In Suite runs March 9-April 7, at the Boston Opera House.

Handel + Haydn Society To Perform Complete Bach Brandenburg Concertos

Could there be a more perfect collection than the six concertos known as the Brandenburgs? The Handel and Haydn Society continues its 2017-18 Season with a program of the Bach Brandenburg Concertos Nos. 1-6 on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. at Sanders Theatre in Cambridge, MA followed by performances on Saturday, February 17 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, February 18, 2018 at 3:00 p.m., both at Jordan Hall in Boston.  Saturday's performance was added to the schedule due to strong popular for the Friday and Sunday performances.

Pacific Chorale to Present St. John Passion

Pacific Chorale, the resident choir of Segerstrom Center for the Arts, will be presenting an intimate presentation of Bach's St. John Passion on Saturday evening, March 10, at 8:00 p.m. at Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Newport Beach, to celebrate the Lenten season (which is from February 14 to March 31, 2018).

The Washington Bach Consort will perform Celebration: Christmas Oratorio on Saturday December 9 at 6 p.m. at the National Presbyterian Church in Washington, D.C. (4101 Nebraska Ave., NW).Christmas Oratorio, J.S. Bach's best known Christmas composition, was completed in 1734 for the Christmas celebrations in Leipzig, Germany.
