BWW Reviews: CAROLINA CHOCOLATE DROPS Impresses at the Sheldon
by Chris Gibson - Nov 23, 2012

When you go to see a concert by the Carolina Chocolate Drops you're going to find yourself immersed in authenticity. Just from the songs themselves, that range all the way back to minstrel shows from the 1850's to their own original material, you're going to hear a plethora of music that conjures up a bygone era. It's the sound of individuals playing music on a front porch, crowded with friends, and full of enthusiasm as well as a sense of history.

by Chris Gibson - Aug 28, 2010

The Carolina Chocolate Drops began as three kids sharing their love of music in weekly musical jam sessions, traveling to North Carolina to play with old-time fiddler Joe Thompson. After forming a traditional string band in tribute to Joe, they began playing at town squares and farmer's markets to perfect their sound, drawing in fans with their unique combination of traditional string band music and modern sensibilities. In 2008, they became the first black string band to perform at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
