Ciarán O'Reilly & Byron Easley Receive 2010 Callaway Award From SDCF

The Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF), the not-for-profit foundation of Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC), announces Director Ciarán O'Reilly (Irish Repertory Theatre's THE EMPEROR JONES) and Choreographer Byron Easley (urbanStages' LANGSTON IN HARLEM) as winners of the Joe A. Callaway Award for the 2009-2010 Theatre Season, presented in a ceremony on Monday, November 15 in Manhattan.

Marin Theatre Company announces the world premiere of 9 Circles, the newest play by Equivocation playwright Bill Cain. 9 Circles is the riveting story of a young American soldier on trial for his life. San Francisco favorite Kent Nicholson returns to the Bay Area to direct 9 Circles in MTC's intimate 99-seat Lieberman Theatre. 9 Circles runs October 14 through November 7, 2010. Opening night is October 19.

Philadelphia Theatre Company kicks off its 35th Anniversary Season with PTC@PLAY, a new play festival running October 5-21 at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre (Broad and Lombard Streets). The Festival, with staged readings of works by established playwrights as well as new voices, features Casa Cushman, by Leigh Fondakowski in conjunction with the Tectonic Theater Project, Strongman's Ghost by Jeffrey Hatcher, What We're Up Against by Theresa Rebeck, How To Write A New Book For The Bible by Bill Cain and Milk Like Sugar by Kirsten Greenidge. All readings are free with curtain time at 7:00 PM.

Halberstam Wins SDCF's Fichandler Award

Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF), the not-for-profit foundation of Stage Directors and Choreographers Society (SDC), announces that Michael Halberstam of Writers' Theatre is the recipient of the 2010 Zelda Fichandler Award, which recognizes an outstanding director or choreographer who is transforming the regional arts landscape through singular creativity and artistry in theatre. The award heralds accomplishment to date and promise for the future, artistic vision, and deep commitment to a region outside of New York. It carries an unrestricted grant of $5000 to the individual recipient.

CATCH ME IF YOU CAN to Open on Broadway April 10; Previews March 7, 2011

Lead producers Margo Lion and Hal Luftig announced today that the new musical CATCH ME IF YOU CAN will open on Broadway Sunday, April 10, 2011 at a Nederlander theatre to be announced. This new musical, created by a team of Tony winners, features a book by Terrence McNally, music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman, choreography by Jerry Mitchell and is directed by Jack O'Brien. Previews begin March 7, 2011. Casting and additional design team will be announced shortly.

SDCF Announces Morehead State & UNLV Co-Winners of Guest Artist Initiative

The Stage Directors and Choreographers Foundation (SDCF) announces the selection of Morehead State University and University of Nevada Las Vegas as co-winners of the 2010-2011 Guest Artist Initiative Program grants. Each school will receive SDCF funding of $3000 to hire a professional director or choreographer for a mainstage production in early 2011.

Producer Daryl Roth presents Obie, Helen Hayes and GLAAD award-winner Marc Wolf's solo show Another American: Asking and Telling at the DR2 Theatre (103 E. 15th Street, NYC). Performances begin today, Monday July 12, and run through August 30, 2010.
