The Shaw Festival's Artistic Director Jackie Maxwell will receive an honorary doctor of laws degree from Queen's University for her landmark achievements in Canadian theatre, theatre arts and her promotion of new visions of Canada on the world stage. The degree will be conferred during the fall convocation ceremonies on November 20 at 10 a.m. in Grant Hall (43 University Avenue), one of the oldest buildings on the Queen's University campus. In addition to leading several on-campus workshops, Ms. Maxwell will also give the convocation address after receiving her honorary degree.

When I first moved to NY, I had two amazing roommates, Eric Christian (dancer, singer and actor extrordinaire) and Jennifer Stetor (now Stetor Eggars... see previous description!). Jen Stet (as we called her) was in 'The Will Rogers Follies', and Eric and I were sweating to the oldies in the Radio City Music Hall's Easter Show. One day, Jen posed the question to me, 'Why do audiences applaud? I mean think about it, human beings slapping their frontal appendages together to give praise...it's just weird.' She may not know it, but I have been fascinated by her query since that day.

Despite the best efforts of some of Nashville's finest and most promising young actresses, who do their best with such a disappointing script, they can't bring the show to life. In conjunction with the 2012 Presidential Election, no fewer than 44 theatres, colleges, and high schools from all over the country will produce 44 Plays for 44 Presidents as part of the Plays for Presidents Festival 2012. The Festival will culminate in simultaneous election night events and an online composite video production of 44 Plays for 44 Presidents made up of contributions from all 44 productions. Productions have been confirmed at venues ranging from Geva Theatre Center to Little Rock Central High School, slotting the show in 22 different states.
