The Pulitzer Prize-winning play Clybourne Park opens on Broadway on April 19, 2012. The acclaimed work by Bruce Norris, and directed by Pam McKinnon, will play the Walter Kerr Theatre for a limited 16-week engagement. Winner of the 2011 Pulitzer Prize and London's Olivier Award for Best Play, Clybourne Park is described as the 'wickedly funny and fiercely provocative new play about race, real estate and the volatile values of each.' Clybourne Park explodes in two outrageous acts set 50 years apart. Act One takes place in 1959, as nervous community leaders anxiously try to stop the sale of a home to a black family. Act Two is set in the same house in the present day, as the now predominantly African-American neighborhood battles to hold its ground in the face of gentrification. I walk into the Walter Kerr and the first thing I see is the wreckage. The house on stage looks like hell, graffiti on the walls, doors off their hinges, and the mirror on the door in the bathroom is smashed. Today, tech rehearsal starts early on in Act Two, as the characters try to hash out the socio-political ramifications of the middle-class white couple trying to demolish this formerly beautiful house in a predominately black neighborhood in order to build a larger, more garish model for the family they're trying to start.

Today, Michael Riedel reports in The New York Post, and BroadwayWorld.com has confirmed, that lead producer Scott Rudin has backed out of producing the Broadway production, which is now agressively hunting for a new producer to bring the show to the Greate White Way.

Bruce Norris deservedly won the 2011 Pulitzer for his brilliant study of human nature Clybourne Park, which picks up where Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun leaves off. Now at the Mark Taper Forum, Park's director Pam McKinnon holds tight reins over an outstanding ensemble, all of whom play two roles as the play shifts in two acts from 1959 to 2009.

Bruce Norris' Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy Clybourne Park, which began previews January 11, opens next Wednesday January 25 at 8 p.m. at the Center Theatre Group/Mark Taper Forum. The production today confirmed that it's slated to make its Broadway debut on April 12, 2012.
