The Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation, The Muny, and the Fabulous Fox announced nominees for the 2025-2026 Ken Page Awards, honoring St. Louis-area high school musical theatre. The ceremony will be held at the Fabulous Fox.
Opera is widely considered to be a seasonal flower. Around the world opera festivals show their shoots in early spring, they blossom in the summer, and they stretch their glory into the fall. In St. Louis, though, we find one of the few fine opera companies willing to brave the icy blasts of winter.
Gina Galati’s delightful Winter Opera company has opened its season with a revival of a rarely seen Gilbert and Sullivan show—The Sorcerer. It premiered in 1877, the first of the grandly popular series of light operas by G & S in which the authors had total control over casting and staging.
It's a splendid production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s 'H.M.S. Pinafore', and it brims with glorious music, wonderful voices, and bright, delightful, timeless comedy.
The Fox Performing Arts Charitable Foundation, The Muny, and the Fabulous Fox Theatre have announced the nominees for the seventh annual St. Louis High School Musical Theatre Awards (SLHSMTA) presented by Carol B. Loeb.
Winter Opera continues it’s seventeenth season with another iconic operetta—Victor Herbert’s Naughty Marietta. This lovely old show premiered in 1910. It was produced by the first Oscar Hammerstein (the grandfather of you-know-who). In 1935 a movie version was made—with Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy.
Gina Galati’s wonderful Winter Opera company continues its 17th season with Puccini’s Manon Lescaut. This work, which opened in 1893, was Puccini’s first great hit. It was rather daring of Puccini to present this piece, based as it was on a novel that had already been adapted to opera by two other composers—first by Daniel Aubert (1856), and then in a hugely successful work by Jules Massenet 1884.
A bright and brand new production for STAGES St. Louis, 9 to 5, The Musical has audiences laughing, crying, and cheering the exploits of Violet, Judy, and Doralee. Based on the seminal 1980 hit movie starring Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, and Dolly Parton, this hilarious musical romp explores friendship and revenge while its heroines attempt to break the glass ceiling and take control of the company that has always kept them down.
