Theater For A New Audience Presents Fiasco's Cymbeline, Previews 8/27

Cymbeline is back! Two sold-out weeks last January for Fiasco Theater's production of Cymbeline wasn't nearly long enough to satisfy the demands of a theatre-going public hungry for, as Ben Brantley of The New York Times wrote, 'the comedy, poignancy and unlikely magic of Cymbeline.'

Stephen Adly Guirgis' hit Tony® nominated Best Play THE MOTHER WITH THE HAT (aka The Motherf**ker with the Hat), starring Chris Rock, will close on Sunday, July 17th at Broadway's Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre (236 West 45th Street). Directed by Anna D. Shapiro, the play opened to critical acclaim on Monday, April 11, 2011.

Branford Marsalis to Compose Music for THE MOUNTAINTOP

It was announced today that world renowned Grammy Award®-winning saxophonist and Tony Award® nominee Branford Marsalis (Fences) will join the creative team as composer of original music for the upcoming Broadway premiere of the new play, The Mountaintop, by Katori Hall, starring Academy Award-nominee Samuel L. Jackson as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Academy Award-nominee & Golden Globe-winner Angela Bassett as Camae. Directed by Tony Award® nominee Kenny Leon (Fences, A Raisin in the Sun), The Mountaintop will begin performances on September 22, 2011, at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre (242 West 45th Street), with an official opening on Thursday, October 13, 2011.

Producers Jean Doumanian and Sonia Friedman announced today that Academy Award-nominee and Golden Globe-winner Angela Bassett will return to the Broadway stage in the role of Camae starring opposite Academy Award-nominee Samuel L. Jackson as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the Broadway production of the new play, The Mountaintop, by Katori Hall directed by Tony Award-nominee Kenny Leon (Fences, A Raisin in the Sun). In addition, Glen Berger (SPIDER-MAN Turn Off the Dark) and PigPen Theatre Company will collaborate on an evening of new material and Off-Broadway's The Civilians will present a concert version of the their hit musical, Gone Missing.

Bobby Cannavale Sustains Head Injury Backstage at MOTHERf**k**ER WITH THE HAT

As reported in the New York Daily News, The Motherf**k**er With The Hat star Bobby Cannavale sustained a head injury backstage during last night's performance about an hour into the performance. Though bleeding, the injusry was not serious. The production was paused and an ambulence called as a precaution, Cannavale finished the performance.

Barrow Street Theatre and Jean Doumanian Productions launch a summer music series at the Barrow Street Theatre with a concert of new music by acclaimed composer Todd Almond. Todd Almond: Wyoming and Parts of Kansas, is a travelogue-in-song event inspired by the songwriter's journey across the American plains. Special Guest Maria Dizzia (In The Next Room or the vibrator play, Drunken City) and musicians will join Almond in this one-of-a-kind musical story telling event for one-night only on Monday, May 9th at 8:00 p.m. at the Barrow Street Theatre (27 Barrow Street).
