Merrimack Repertory Theatre (MRT) presents The Devil's Music: The Life and Blues of Bessie Smith by Angelo Parra and directed by Joe Brancato, January 9- February 2, continuing the theater's 35th season with the soulful blues. The play will be performed in the recently-renovated Nancy L. Donahue Theatre, located at 50 East Merrimack Street in historic downtown Lowell. In the world of Rock n' Roll photographers, there are few whose work with The Band and Bob Dylan, among others, is as extraordinary as Elliott Landy's. Brought into the fold of The Band during the recording of their first 2 records, Landy shot over 8,000 frames of film of The Band. Of these, only about 30 have been widely published. The photos, which evoke so many memories, have been in his studio, protected and cherished, for over forty years. All these years later, Landy still feels this is his best body of work from this period.

Mary Bridget Davies, star of the new Broadway musical A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN, appeared on ABC's "World News Now" late last night. In a backstage interview, she chatted about preparing for the role of a lifetime and teaching Broadway audiences through her performance about the blues singers who influenced Janis's music so deeply. A backstage interview with Mary Bridget Davies, star of the new Broadway musical A NIGHT WITH JANIS JOPLIN, will appear on ABC's "World News Now" late tonight, December 18 (early Thursday morning, December 19), between 2:30-4:00am. "World News Now" airs from 2:30-4:00am EST on channel 7 (WABC). Check local listings.

The Broadway League announced today the shows participating in the 18thKIDS' NIGHT ON BROADWAY, which will take place Monday, February 24, 2014 to Sunday, March 2, 2014. Tickets to participating shows will be available to the public starting Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 10 a.m. ET.

Now, to celebrate today's (November 26) release of Walker's lost studio session from 1970, and his first solo guitar record with vocals, 'Has Anybody Seen Our Freedoms?', on Delmore Recording Society, he is proud to announce that he will be making his first NYC area live performance in seven years (and only show this year) on 12/18 at Union Pool in Brooklyn.

NYC & Company, New York City's official marketing, tourism and partnership organization, announced that Broadway Week will return this winter with 2-for-1 theater tickets to 26 Broadway shows-more than any previous iteration of the campaign. The promotion will run from January 21 through February 6, and theatergoers can take advantage of this savings opportunity by purchasing 2-for-1 tickets starting on January 6 at nycgo.com/broadwayweek.

Basquiat, a new musical about the life and times of 80's art-star, Jean Michele Basquiat just premiered a special concert version of the show at Joe's Publast night, December 16th. The performers included Eric LaJuan Summers (Motown: The Musical) as well as Lena Hall (Kinky Boots) and Felicia Finley(Mama Mia, The Wedding Singer). Other performers include Ken Robinson (Memphis), Julius Thomas III (Motown: The Musical) Chad Carstarphen (In the Heights), Benjamin Mapp, Jimmy Lambert, Roger DeWitt, Eddie Varley andNikki Kimbrough (A Night with Janis Joplin). Mary Bridget Davies, critically acclaimed for her portrayal of Janis, was joined by Taprena Michelle Augustine,De'Adre Aziza, Nikki Kimbrough, and NaTasha Yvette Williams as Aretha Franklin to perform the show-stopping Act One finale "Spirit in the Dark."
