ArtsEmerson: The World on Stage opens its sixth season with ERNEST SHACKLETON LOVES ME, a time-traveling musical adventure that takes a modern-day woman out of her Brooklyn apartment and way out of her comfort zone to join the polar explorer on his harrowing expedition a century ago. Director Lisa Peterson and the engaging duo of Valerie Vigoda and Wade McCollum bring out the humanity of the characters through the magic of music and design.

This year's festival of all new talent features four nonstop weeks of comedy, music & theater mash-ups, and invites audiences on a nightly adventure with the next wave of breakthrough artists at Ars Nova. Now in its fourth year, The Communal Spaces Festival will premiere eight new short plays inspired by and performed in community gardens in Bedford-Stuyvesant and Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. The festival will take place on the last weekend in August and the first two weekends in September. Previous festivals have included site specific performances in community gardens on the Lower East Side, East Village, Upper West Side and Harlem. In the past four years 27 new works have been presented. This year's titles include Washougal My Heart, COMPETE ME and ALTHEA THE GARDEN CANTATA.

This year, "Communal Spaces: a garden play festival" will share its final weekend with the LUNGS Harvest Art Festival, a multidimensional arts festival that reflects the creative spirit of the neighborhood and the integral part that community gardens play in the culture and life of Lower East Side. Last year, Communal Spaces' play 'Don't Weep for Me, Willow Tree' was featured as part of the festival. This year, all the plays will be part of the weekend of arts events. Admission is free.

The production will run tonight, August 9th - 25th at Venue #16: Robert Moss Theater at 440 Studios.
