The Dallas Opera is the proud recipient of two extraordinary new gifts, totaling $2 million, from The Eugene McDermott Foundation and Mrs. Eugene (Margaret) McDermott, who have requested that the position of Dallas Opera General Director and CEO be known henceforth as the “Kern Wildenthal General Director and CEO” in honor of the longtime Dallas Opera Board Member and Past Chairman. Dr. Wildenthal currently serves the company as an Officer-at-large on TDO's Executive Committee.
“Often when I tell people I'm doing a new production, the first question they ask is: 'What time period are you going to do it in and where?' I think that's a superficial approach, almost a cliche,” says Tomer Zvulun, General and Artistic Director of the Atlanta Opera. “The first thing I ask myself is: Why am I telling this story now? Why would the audience care? And, how would I connect with them in the most effect way while respecting the piece?”
But that's not Tvulun's point of view.
Tony Award-winning star of theater, film, and television - will join this year's edition of the New York Philharmonic's annual New Year's Eve celebration, La Vie Parisienne, narrating Saint-Sae?ns's Carnival of the Animals. Conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert, the performance will also feature pianists Inon Barnatan, the Philharmonic's Artist-in-Association, and Makoto Ozone.
