Photo Flash: GODSPELL's Lindsay Mendez Visits Birdland!

The Broadway at Birdland concert series last night featured the return of Lindsay Mendez & Marco Paguia. Lindsay and Marco draw from an eclectic mix of music, reimagining songs from popular music in the familiar setting of a jazz piano trio and vocalist. Their vast catalogue is comprised of the singers and songwriters that inspire them, including Alexi Murdoch, Alicia Keys, The Beatles, Feist, Fiona Apple, Gladys Knight, Janis Joplin, Jeff Buckley, Joni Mitchell, Lenny Kravitz, Macy Gray, Martin Sexton, Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, The Police, Stevie Wonder, and U2. Tony Award-nominee Robert Cuccioli (Jekyll & Hyde, Les Miserables) will headline the December 18th at 3pm and December 30th at 9pm performances of JACQUES BREL RETURNS...The Music of Brel, Blau, Shuman and Jouannest. Joining Cuccioli on December 18th will be Jim Stanek (Lestat, Little Women, …Forum), Arlo Hill (Where's Charley? At Encores! directed by John Doyle), Rick Hip-Flores (who has performed in the pits of Billy Elliot, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and The Radio City Christmas Spectacular) and Ereni Sevasti (The Bacchae at The Public, Carnival at The Kennedy Center), and joining him on December 30th will be Rick Hip-Flores, Ereni Sevasti and PJ Baccari. Rick Hip-Flores will also serve as musical director for both performances.

The Old Globe will open its 2012-13 Winter Season with the World Premiere of Allegiance - A New American Musical. Created by Jay Kuo and Lorenzo Thione with music and lyrics by Kuo, the original musical tells the story of a Japanese American family forced into an internment camp during World War II.

Directed by Stafford Arima (Carrie, Altar Boyz, West End premiere of Ragtime), the production features musical direction and arrangements by Lynne Shankel (Cry-Baby, Company) and choreography by Christopher Gattelli (Newsies, Godspell, South Pacific). Tony Award-winning actress Lea Salonga (Miss Saigon, Les Miserables), television and film icon George Takei ("Star Trek," "Heroes") and Telly Leung (Godspell, Rent) will star.
