Shakespeare in the Streets Presents TWELFTH NIGHT This Weekend

An artful adaptation of William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, will be featured in the fourth annual, wildly popular, Shakespeare in the Streets, it was announced today by Rick Dildine, Artistic and Executive Director for Shakespeare Festival St. Louis. The event is scheduled today through Saturday, Sept. 17-19, on N. 14th Street in the Old North neighborhood.

Princeton Symphony Orchestra Launches Season with Seven World Premieres, 10/4

Princeton, NJ – The Princeton Symphony Orchestra (PSO) four-concert 2015-2016 Chamber Series opens Sunday, October 4 at 4:30 pm with the Signum Quartet performing seven #quartweet premieres written by PSO composer friends Derek Bermel, Sebastian Currier, Julian Grant, Jing Jing Luo, Steven Mackey, Caroline Shaw, and Sarah Kirkland Snider. The group's #quartweet project explores the integration of Twitter formatting with composer creativity, encouraging composers worldwide of all ages and experience levels to create condensed works of 140 notes or less. The concert, which also features full-length works by Beethoven and Janá?ek, and #quartweet precursors by Bach and Webern, will take place at the Institute for Advanced Study's Wolfensohn Hall.  The chamber concert serves as the official public launch of the quartet's worldwide #quartweet tour.

Philadelphia Theatre Company Reveals 2015 McNally Award Winner

Philadelphia Theatre Company (PTC) is pleased to announce James Ijames as the recipient of the fourth Terrence McNally New Play Award for the development of his play White. The Terrence McNally New Play Award is a $10,000 cash prize given annually to recognize a new play that celebrates the transformative power of art. The Award will also include a year of development support at PTC, including readings as well as administrative support and networking to help manage the future of the play beyond its time at PTC.

New ALICE IN WONDERLAND Exhibit Opening at New York Public Library for the Performing Arts

To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the publication of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center in Lincoln Center will present the free multimedia exhibition Alice Live! The exhibition will trace the history of Lewis Carroll's beloved Alice stories in live performance from their first professional staging through today. Alice Live! will be on display from October 2, 2015 through January 16, 2016 in The Library for the Performing Arts's Donald and Mary Oenslager Gallery, Shelby Cullom Davis Museum. 

Theater for the New City to Present WIVES and THE ACADEMY Double-Bill, 10/8-25

From October 8 to 25, Theater for the New City will present the world premiere of a new play by Mario Fratti, 'Wives,' in a double-bill with his breakthrough play, 'The Academy.' Taken together, the two plays illustrate the changing nature of the battle of the sexes between the postwar period and now. The two-part evening is directed by actor/director Stephan Morrow, who plays the instructor of a school for gigolos in 'The Academy.'

Unexpected Stage Company's TRISH TINKLER GETS SAVED Set for Women's Voices Theater Festival

As part of the citywide Women's Voices Theater Festival, Unexpected Stage Company-the fast-growing, Washington, D.C.-area professional theater company-will present the world premiere comedy Trish Tinkler Gets Saved, by Jacqueline Goldfinger. Trish Tinkler Gets Saved follows former Whitesnake groupie Trish as she waits for a visit from a divine presence at the Eat 'n' Save mini-mart. The production is running October 8 through 18, 2015, at Randolph Road Theater, 4010 Randolph Road, Wheaton, MD (the former home of Round House).

The Metropolitan Opera's 2015-16 Season to Open with OTHELLO

The Metropolitan Opera will open its 131st season on Monday, September 21 with a new production of Verdi's Otello. Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts his first Met opening night, a staging by Tony Award winner Bartlett Sher of the late Verdi masterpiece based on Shakespeare's tragic drama of jealousy and deceit. Aleksandrs Antonenko, who has starred as the doomed Otello around the world to acclaim, makes his Met role debut opposite rising Bulgarian soprano Sonya Yoncheva in her first-ever performances of Otello's innocent wife Desdemona. Željko Lu?i? adds a new role to his company repertory as the evil Iago, as do Dimitri Pittas as Iago's pawn Cassio and Günther Groissböck as the Venetian ambassador Lodovico. Sher's staging will feature scenic design by acclaimed designer Es Devlin in her Met debut; costume design by six-time Tony Award winner Catherine Zuber; lighting design by two-time Tony winner Donald Holder; and video design by Luke Halls in his Met debut.

BWW Fall Roundup: The Scoop on What Shows Not to Miss this Fall on Connecticut Stages

Summer is on its way out, but Connecticut theaters are heating up with some exciting offerings this fall. Theater lovers have the best of both worlds here in the Nutmeg State: Broadway is just down the road, but we never even have to leave home to see exceptional theater thanks to the bevy of professional theaters that call Connecticut home too. This season looks particularly exciting and I'll share with you what I am most looking forward to reviewing this fall. There are other great shows scheduled this fall as well as through the 2016 season, but in the interest of space, I will concentrate on top picks for this fall.

Echo Theater Company's West Coast Premiere of AMERICAN FALLS Begins Tonight

'In American Falls, a doctor can live next to a shoe salesman, and a shoe salesman can be an Indian.' The Echo Theater Company introduces L.A. audiences to playwright Miki Johnson when Chris Fields directs the West Coast premiere of American Falls, opening tonight, Sept. 11 at the Echo's Atwater Village Theatre home.
