New York City Ballet Launches Art Series

During the 2013 winter season, New York City Ballet will launch a new initiative called the New York City Ballet Art Series. The series will feature annual collaborations with contemporary visual artists who will create original works inspired by NYCB that will be exhibited at the Company's home at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center.

The Martha Graham Dance Company Announces Joyce Theater Season, 2/20-3/3

The Martha Graham Dance Company (Janet Eilber, Artistic Director; LaRue Allen, Executive Director) will present 15 performances at The Joyce Theater, February 20-March 3, 2013. The season continues the company's innovative thematic presentations with Myth and Transformation-three compelling programs that explore how artists reinvent iconic stories to make bold contemporary statements. The two-week season features Graham masterworks including Phaedra, Cave of the Heart, Night Journey, Errand into the Maze, and Diversion of Angels alongside new commissions and premieres from Richard Move, Luca Veggetti, and Doug Varone. A reconstruction of a Graham solo, Imperial Gesture (1935), will also be presented. Performances will take place Wednesday, February 20 to Sunday, February 24; and Tuesday, February 26 to Sunday, March 3.

Isamu Noguchi 'HAMMER, CHISEL, DRILL' Exhibition Opens in Long Island City Today, 10/3

Hammer, Chisel, Drill: Noguchi's Studio Practice, an exhibition that explores Isamu Noguchi's working methods, opens at The Noguchi Museum today, October 3, 2012. Featuring a variety of hand- and industrial tools, along with photographs, select sculptures, and film footage, the exhibition will illuminate Noguchi's practice in six of the studios he used during the course of his career. These were located in Manhattan and Queens, New York; Querceta and Pietrasanta, Italy; and Kanagawa prefecture and Mure, Japan. Hammer, Chisel, Drill will also briefly consider Noguchi's time as an assistant in the Paris studio of Constantin Brancusi, which was critical not only as the younger artist's first exposure to direct stone-carving, but also for its influence on the way he would set up his own studios.

Martha Graham Dance Co. Added to Carolina Performing Arts' RITE OF SPRING AT 100

Carolina Performing Arts (CPA) at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-Chapel Hill) today announced the addition of an exceptional two-night program to the performance season of The Rite of Spring at 100. Presented at 8pm on Friday, April 26 and at 9pm on Saturday, April 27,Myth & Transformation by the renowned Martha Graham Dance Company will bring to a conclusion the performance season of this unprecedented nine-month festival celebrating the centennial of the premiere of the Stravinsky-Nijinsky-Roerich masterpiece.

New York City Center will reopen following a historic renovation and modernization with a star-studded gala on October 25. The event will kick off a celebratory season of new and expanded programming, festivals, exhibits, a special commission, and performances by world-class dance and theater companies. The renovation, designed by Ennead Architects, LLP (formerly Polshek Partnership), has transformed the landmark building into a contemporary cultural center complete with modern amenities and enhanced historic details, from the mezzanine lobby's painted ceiling and murals to the auditorium's arabesque dome. City Center is located on 55th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues.

Martha Graham Piece to be Performed for the First Time in Russia, 6/23

For the first time In Russia, at the Diana Vishneva Gala Performance, a Martha Graham piece will be performed. On June 23 at the Mariinsky Theatre, Diana Vishneva and Martha Graham Dance Company member Benjamin Robert Schultz will perform the Graham classic masterpiece Errand into the Maze. ?

Storm King Art Center Announces Outdoor Exhibition on Governors Island

Storm King Art Center today announced a major exhibition of large-scale works by iconic American sculptor Mark di Suvero, to open on Governors Island on May 27. Mark di Suvero at Governors Island: Presented by Storm King Art Center comprises roughly a dozen works that will be sited across the 172-acre expanse of the Island, a former military base that is now a vibrant public space.
