About ten years ago, Tommy Tune was starring in an Off-Broadway revue; a nightclub-style act he had been performing in Las Vegas. I hadn't seen the show yet, but one night I was browsing through a theatre chat board and read a comment by someone who had just seen a preview. The writer was very excited to report about one of those special moments the audience witnessed that night that could only happen in live theatre.

In the coming week, by tuning into KQED 9, local television viewers can get a taste of the intimacy and adventure that theatregoers regularly enjoy at the Tony Award-winning Berkeley Repertory Theatre. First, Anna Deavere Smith's electrifying solo show Let Me Down Easy airs on PBS' Great Performances. Then KQED debuts The Memory Be Green, an original documentary about the world-premiere production of Ghost Light. Bringing the best of British theatre to cinemas across the U.S. this fall, NCM Fathom will present a series of four events from the stage of the National Theatre of Great Britain. National Theatre Live (NT Live) will launch its third season on NCM network screens with One Man, Two Guvnors on Thursday, October 20, followed by The Kitchen on Thursday, November 3; Collaborators on Thursday, December 1; and The Comedy of Errors on Thursday, March 1, with additional titles in 2012 to be announced soon. All events will begin at 7:00 p.m. local time. Presented by NT Live, BY Experience and Fathom, the four-part in-theater series will be broadcast to more than 130 additional U.S. movie theaters nationwide through NCM's exclusive Digital Broadcast Network.
