Adventure Theatre MTC (ATMTC), recent recipient of a Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding Play or Musical Adaptation, takes a mighty leap down the Mississippi River with Huckleberry Finn's Big River, revised from Tony Award winning musical Big River, adapted from the classic Mark Twain book. With the support of over 100 consensus organizers (individuals and organizations serving the black community), this revision uses the original music and lyrics by Roger Miller with new arrangements and orchestrations by William Yanesh. Additionally, this revision, expands the role of Jim, now the same age as Huckleberry, and removes offensive language.

Theater J, the nation's pre-eminent professional Jewish theater, is delighted to announce that Jojo Ruf will become its new Managing Director on January 28, 2019. Ruf joins Artistic Director Adam Immerwahr in the leadership of the theater, which is a program of the Edlavitch DC Jewish Community Center (EDCJCC). Ruf comes to Theater J from The Laboratory for Global Performance and Politics (The Lab) at Georgetown University, where she has been serving as Managing Director since 2015. She is a nationally-recognized field leader with particular expertise in international collaborations and new play development.

The Washington Stage Guild presents the third and final play in Arlene Hutton's romantic trilogy portraying married life in the mid-20th Century. Gulf View Drive explores the lives of Raleigh and May Brummett, who met by chance during World War II, married in haste and faced the challenges of finding their own way. It is now 1953 and Raleigh's published stories have gained success. But success brings new challenges as both mothers-in-law and a sister descend on the couple. Along the way, each adjusts to the meaning of family life in his or her own way and faces an America beginning to confront its racial divide. The play opens on Thursday, January 17 and will run through Sunday, February 10, 2019. Press performance will be on Sunday, January 20 at 2:30 pm. A special talkback with playwright Arlene Hutton is scheduled immediately following this performance.

The 5th Avenue Theatre has announced that Mickey Thomas, the lead singer of Starship (formerly Jefferson Starship), will star as Dennis in its sensational new production of Rock of Ages. Rock of Ages is the '80s rock ballad blast that features the music of Styx, Joan Jett, Twisted Sister, and more.
