2012 is just around the corner, and there are a plethora of shows in store for this new Broadway season. From brand new musicals to vintage plays and West End transfers to American classics, 2012's upcoming shows should surely lead to a stellar awards season this spring. UP ON THE MARQUEE: NEWSIES!

As previously announced, Newsies will move to Broadway's Nederlander Theatre for a strictly limited 101 performance run following its critically-hailed run at Paper Mill Playhouse earlier this fall. The musical, featuring a score by eight-time Academy Award® winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Sister Act) and Jack Feldman, and a book by four-time Tony Award® winner Harvey Fierstein (La Cage aux Folles, Torch Song Trilogy), will play its first Broadway preview on March 15th prior to its March 29th opening night; the final performance is scheduled for June 10th.

THE LA MAMA CANTATA Returns To Ellen Stewart Theatre

Elizabeth Swados' new music theatre work THE LA MAMA CANTATA -- given its world-premiere for two performances in November -- returns by popular demand to the Ellen Stewart Theatre (66 E. 4 St.) for two additional performances during the holiday season on December 29 and 30 at 7:30 p.m., it has been announced by La MaMa's artistic director Mia Yoo.

La Cage Aux Folles, starring film and TV actor George Hamilton and two-time Tony Award nominee and Christopher Sieber, is on tour and is currently playing at Boston's Citi Performaning Arts Center. Winner of three 2010 Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Musical, this flashy comedy made Tony Awards history as the first show ever to win the Tony Award three times for best production.
