Steve Blanchard, Dee Hoty and More Among Stars of Lyric Theatre's 2014 Summer Shows; Cast & Creatives Announced!

Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma today announced casting and production teams for its annual summer shows, featuring new and returning national talent, including Steve Blanchard, George Dvorsky, Dee Hoty, Victoria Huston-Elem, Meredith Inglesby, Amanda Lea LaVergne, Danny Rothman, Emily Skinner, Chuck Wagner, and more. All four productions- LES MISERABLES, DISNEY'S THE LITTLE MERMAID, MONTY PYTHON'S SPAMALOT, and A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC - will perform at the Civic Center Music Hall in Oklahoma City.

NAMT Awards Grants to Goodspeed Musicals, The Public Theater, 5th Avenue Theatre and More

The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) announces nine awards granted from their National Fund for New Musicals, a major funding program to support NAMT member not-for-profit theatres in their collaborations with writers to create, develop and produce new musicals. Now in its sixth year, the Fund will provide grants totaling $35,500 to nine organizations across the country.

Goodspeed's RAZZLE DAZZLE Gala to Honor Sheldon Harnick, 6/14

Goodspeed Musicals is delighted to announce that Tony, Grammy and Pulitzer Prize winner Sheldon Harnick will be the latest recipient of The Goodspeed Award for Outstanding Contribution to Musical Theatre. Over the years Mr. Harnick's work has been represented on the Goodspeed stage with Fiorello! (1985), She Loves Me (1978), The Apple Tree (1999), and this summer's 50th Anniversary production of Fiddler on the Roof at the Goodspeed Opera House. The award will be presented by longtime friend and star of stage and screen, two time Tony Award-winner Tony Roberts (Broadway's Promises, Promises; They're Playing Our Song; Victor/Victoria; Cabaret).

Goodspeed's Red Sox Edition of DAMN YANKEES Opens Tonight

Goodspeed Musicals kicks off its 2014 season at the Goodspeed Opera House with the home run hit Damn Yankees. Goodspeed brings a unique New England flavor to its production, setting it in 1955 Boston and pitting the storied Yanks against the beloved Boston Red Sox. This ace musical comedy runs now through June 21 at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, Conn.

Jeffrey Bean, Sharon Lockwood and More to Star in Alley Theatre's 'VANYA AND SONIA'; Cast and Creatives Set!

Alley Theatre Artistic Director Gregory Boyd announces the cast and creative team for recent Tony Award-winning comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. Appearing in titles roles are Resident Actor Jeffrey Bean as Vanya, Sharon Lockwood returning to the Alley as Sonia, Alley Artist Josie de Guzman returning as Masha, and Resident Actor Jay Sullivan as Spike. Rounding out the cast and making their Alley debuts are Rachael Holmes as Cassandra and Sarah Nealis as Nina. Jonathan Moscone, Artistic Director of California Shakespeare Theater, helms the production and returns after having directed the Alley's 2011 production of Amadeus.

Academy Award nominee Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road) plays Berenger in Eugene Ionesco's The Killer in a production that also features Kristine Nielsen, Paul Sparks and Robert Stanton. The Killer is newly translated by Michael Feingold and is directed by Darko Tresnjak (A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder). Last produced Off-Broadway in 1960, The Killer is the final production of Theatre for a New Audience's inaugural season at Polonsky Shakespeare Center, 262 Ashland Place. Previews begin Saturday, May 17, at 7:30pm for an opening Thursday, May 29, and a scheduled run through Sunday, June 29. Yale Rep Stages World Premiere of THE HOUSE THAT WILL NOT STAND, Now thru 5/10

Yale Repertory Theatre, in a co-production with Berkeley Repertory Theatre, presents the world premiere of The House that will not Stand by Marcus Gardley, directed by Patricia McGregor. The House that will not Stand will be performed at Yale Repertory Theatre (1120 Chapel Street) today, April 18-May 10. Opening Night is Thursday, April 24.

Broadway Designer Mark Adam Rampmeyer Becomes Head of Goodspeed's Costume Collection

Goodspeed Musicals has announced that designer Mark Adam Rampmeyer has joined the organization as the Costume Rental Manager. Mr. Rampmeyer's career has spanned more than 30 years in professional theater and he is very excited to pursue this new career opportunity. In this new position Mark will be responsible for curating the collection of over 250,000 pieces which can be used in Goodspeed productions and rented to professional theatres and universities across the country. "This is a brand- new direction for my career and for Goodspeed's collection," he stated, "I look forward to the first time I get to hang the work of an emerging designer next to that of some of the theater world's greatest talents like Gregg Barnes, Willa Kim, William Ivey Long and so many others currently in this incredible collection."

Berkeley Rep Opens Nina Raine's TRIBES Tonight

Berkeley Repertory Theatre continues the second half of its season with Tribes, a sophisticated and moving family drama by celebrated British playwright Nina Raine. Her profound and powerful new play became an award-winning hit in London and New York. Now renowned director Jonathan Moscone brings it to Berkeley Rep this April for its Bay Area premiere. Tribes follows Billy, a young man who was born deaf into a loquacious and highly opinionated academic family who raised him to lip-read and integrate into the hearing world. When he meets Sylvia - raised by Deaf parents and going deaf herself - Billy decides it's time to speak on his own terms and to be heard. Playing out in words, sign language, and sometimes mesmerizing silence, this penetrating drama examines familial love, notions of belonging, and the intersections of communication. Tribes began previews Friday, April 11, opens tonight, April 16, and closes on Sunday, May 11, 2014.

Ben Edquist, Arlo Hill and Natalie Ballenger Named Winners of 2014 LOTTE LENYA COMPETITION

Ben Edquist, of Houston, won the $15,000 First Prize in the finals of the 2014 Lotte Lenya Competition, sponsored by the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music and held on April 12, 2014, in Kilbourn Hall of the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. Arlo Hill, of New York, won the Second Prize of $10,000, and the Third Prize of $7,500 was awarded to Natalie Ballenger, also of New York.

Ty Olwin, Will Casey & More to Star in Raven's VIEUX CARRE; Full Cast Announced

Complete casting has been announced for Raven's revival of this later play by Tennessee Williams that was 'rediscovered' in acclaimed productions in London and New York. An autobiographical play that Williams first began writing around the time he started The Glass Menagerie, it concerns a young writer who in 1938 moves to a ramshackle French Quarter rooming house that's home to an assortment of desperate and eccentric characters. The New York Times said Vieux Carre is, along with The Glass Menagerie, Williams' other autobiographical memory play, one of two 'critical bookends' to Williams' career.
