The Second City Announces Cast of 42ND REVUE

The Second City announces the cast for The Second City e.t.c.'s 42nd Revue. Under the direction of Annelise Toft with music direction byJacob Shuda, The Second City e.t.c.'s 42nd Revue features Emily Fightmaster, Sayjal Joshi, Katie Kershaw, Andrew Knox, Alan Linic and Jasbir Singh Vazquez. The stage manager is Laura Hum. The official press opening is Friday, April 6 at 8pm.

TV: Dr. Ricardo Rosenkranz Returns in THE ROSENKRANZ MYSTERIES: PHYSICIAN MAGICIAN

Touted by the Chicago Tribune as an "immensely likable, intelligent and very intimate show," Dr. Ricardo Rosenkranz is back by popular demand with The Rosenkranz Mysteries: Physician Magician. Performances begin Tuesday, March 27, with a press opening on Tuesday, April 3 at the Royal George Theatre Cabaret, 1641 N Halsted Street in Chicago for a limited engagement.

Amy Freed's SHREW! Has World Premiere At South Coast Repertory

Playwright Amy Freed has always been a Shakespeare fan. Her breakout hit, The Beard of Avon (SCR-commissioned and premiered, 2001), was a smart, funny look at the controversy surrounding the authorship of Shakespeare's plays. Now comes SHREW! (March 24-April 21, Segerstrom Stage), in which Freed has re-imagined The Bard's play, The Taming of the Shrew, as a wickedly funny love story of two people who find their way to true, deep and mutual love. Art Manke directs SHREW!, which is an anchor production of the 2018 Pacific Playwrights Festival. Tickets are available at www.scr.org.

Fifteen years after its world premiere at McCarter Theatre Center, Crowns is returning. When Yolanda's brother is killed on the streets of Chicago, the shaken teenager is sent to live with her grandmother in South Carolina, where she embarks on a journey toward discovering her place in the world, and in her family. Produced in association with Long Wharf Theatre, Crowns runs March 13 - April 1 in McCarter's Matthews Theatre.

Final Performers Announced For Random Acts' #SAFESPACE This Monday

Random Acts is thrilled to announce the complete list of artists for the inaugural #SafeSpace event, launching on Monday, March 19th at 8pm hosted by Sadieh Rifai (Amazon's Patriot.) Proceeds from the event, which will be held at Galway Arms (2442 N. Clark) will be donated to Planned Parenthood.

The Marriott Theatre Announces Casting For OKLAHOMA!

From the sun baked Oklahoma Territory at the turn of the 20th century comes the Broadway classic, Oklahoma!, beginning April 11 with a press opening on Wednesday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. at 10 Marriott Drive, Lincolnshire. Due to high demand, an additional week is now on sale through June 10. Featuring a powerful score by legendary duo Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, and based on Lynn Riggs' 1931 play, Green Grow the Lilacs, Oklahoma! will be directed by Artistic Director and Jeff Award-winner Aaron Thielen (She Loves Me, Spring Awakening). Jeff Award nominee Alex Sanchez (Marriott Theatre: Newsies, Evita, On the Town, Mary Poppins) will choreograph, with Musical Direction and orchestrations by Jeff Award winner Ryan T. Nelson.

NATIVE SON Adaptation Gets Southern California Premiere at Antaeus

Andi Chapman directs the Southern California premiere of Nambi E. Kelley's visceral, groundbreaking stage adaption of Richard Wright's racially charged novel, Native Son, for Antaeus Theatre Company. Wright's iconic novel about oppression, freedom and justice comes to life on stage at the Kiki & David Gindler Performing Arts Center in Glendale beginning April 19, with performances continuing through June 3. Low-priced previews take place April 12-18.

Marking history with art, Park City Institute presents L.A. Theatre Works' Olivier Award-winning play, The Mountaintop, by Katori Hall. The powerful two-person play imagines the story of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr's last night on earth. "This year marks the 50th Anniversary of Dr. King's assassination," said PCI Executive Director, Teri Orr. "We wanted to honor his memory, his work, and his life, by presenting The Mountaintop. The play is filled with humor, political jabs, and offers a glimpse at the human side of this larger-than-life figure. And, it carries a message that is still relevant, today."

Cast Announced For The Wallis Production Of BLUES IN THE NIGHT

The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts announces the cast for its upcoming production of Blues in the Night.  Conceived and directed by Sheldon Epps, the production will feature Yvette Cason (Shout Sister Shout, Broadway and film versions of Dreamgirls), Bryce Charles (The Book of Mormon, ABC's "Black-ish"), Paulette Ivory (Disney's Aida and the West End premieres of The Lion King and Blues in the Night) and Chester Gregory (Broadway's Motown: The Musical, Hairspray and  Sister Act).  Blues in the Night will begin performances April 27 through May 20 in the Lovelace Studio Theater.

The Second City Extends SHE THE PEOPLE Due To Overwhelming Demand

The Second City announces the extension of The Second City's She the People: Girlfriends' Guide to Sisters Doing It for Themselves, a show the Chicago Tribune calls "empowering entertainment" and the Sun-Times raves is "one of the funniest revues Second City has produced in the past 20 years." A sketch show created, designed and performed entirely by the women of Second City, She the People features the talents of Carisa Barreca, Alex Bellisle, Katie Caussin and Kimberly Michelle Vaughn in addition to newcomers Emma Pope and Kaye Winks. Under the direction of Carly Heffernan with musical direction by Mary Mahoney, She the People now plays through May 27, 2018 in The Second City's UP Comedy Club. Philadelphia Theatre Company presents the Ars Nova production of the Obie Award winning play Small Mouth Sounds, written by Bess Wohl and directed by Tony nominee  Rachel Chavkin (Natasha Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812). In the overwhelming quiet of the woods, six wildy dissimilar runaways from city life embark on a week-long silent retreat. Guided by an unseen guru and pledging a vow of silence, these strangers confront internal demons both profound and absurd. Both contemplative and funny, Small Mouth Sounds is a cleverly conceived and sharp observation of the pursuit of wellness and the achingly human need to connect.  Small Mouth Sounds will preview on March 13 and opens on March 14, 2018. The show will run for 24 performances through April 1, 2018 at Philadelphia Theatre Company at the Suzanne Roberts Theatre (480 S. Broad Street).
