The Curtis Opera Theatre, in association with Opera Philadelphia and Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, presents three sold-out performances March 4, 6, and 8 in the Perelman Theater at Philadelphia's Kimmel Center.
On Site Opera has garnered considerable acclaim for its immersive, site-specific productions since stage director Eric Einhorn founded it just three years ago.
It has been a very good year in New York for the Mozart of Swedish baritone Peter Mattei. He helped open the season with the Met's new production of LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, receiving a splendid reception for his performance as Count Almaviva, which brought new insights to a role that frequently gets lost in the shuffle of the large ensemble. Then came his DON GIOVANNI, which finishes up its run on Friday March 6, aptly called “commanding” by The New York Times.
The cast and company of Madam Butterfly at the Royal Albert Hall, produced by Raymond Gubbay with the Royal Albert Hall, will tonight celebrated the production's 100th performance in the venue. The current revival runs until Sunday 15 March.
On Site Opera has garnered considerable acclaim for its immersive, site-specific productions since stage director Eric Einhorn founded it just three years ago. This summer, the company kicks off its most ambitious undertaking to date:The Figaro Project. On Site Opera will offer lesser-known operatic adaptations of French playwright Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais' (1732-1799) famed trilogy of Figaro plays: The Barber of Seville (1775), The Marriage of Figaro (1784) and The Guilty Mother(1792). The Figaro Project will reacquaint audiences with their favorite Beaumarchais' characters in new and unexpected ways in non-traditional venues across New York City.
Semele by George Frideric Handel will be presented by the Canadian Opera Company at BAM's Howard Gilman Opera House (30 Lafayette Ave), conducted by Christopher Moulds and directed by Zhang Huan on March 4, 6 and 10 at 7:30 p.m. and March 8 at 3 p.m.
Following its successful Off-Broadway run at New York City's Theatre 80 in the Fall of 2014, LIBERTY: A MONUMENTAL NEW MUSICAL kicked off a crowdfunding campaign via Indiegogo for their cast recording. Early in 2015 the cast of LIBERTY and its writers went into the studio at John Kilgore Sound & Recording to make a cast album.
