Now known as the ersatz Paul McCartney in Rain, Curatolo grew up in a Brooklyn household where classical music and opera were more the norm. But a natural musician-at ten, young Joey taught himself how to play the guitar, playing the piano by ear at 16-Curatolo became infatuated with The Beatles, ultimately winning several Paul McCartney sound-alike contests, even touring with Beatlemania.

Every once in a great while, a person comes across a play, musical, cabaret, or other production that is so inspiring, so magnetic, so unique, with a passionate performance, stellar direction, beautiful music, and ingenious sets that truly leaves the audience both captivated and inspired. Pianist David Lanz, with able assistance from Gary Stroutsos (woodwinds), Walter Gray (cello) and Keith Lowe (bass), has put together a sequel of sorts to his wonderful album of Beatles songs, Liverpool, with a new collection called HERE COMES THE SUN. This time around he includes a terrific cut from the quiet Beatle, the late George Harrison (who was/is actually my favorite of the fab four). It's another masterpiece of subtlety and charm, perhaps even more lovely from than the first. Lanz is going to promote the new work with a small tour, so be sure to catch him live if you have the opportunity.

David and I sat down to discuss how playing Hamlet has changed for him over the years, as well as what the future holds, and how he learned to play the ukulele. And that's a story that will surprise you.
