The Skirball Cultural Center presents the Los Angeles premiere of South Indian violinist, composer, and conductor Dr. L. Subramaniam's Global Fusion featuring harmonica blues legend Corky Siegel, live in concert, on February 22, 2013, at 8:00 p.m. Continuing the Skirball's new music series, 'Journeys and Encounters' - which showcases surprising collaborations between musicians of diverse genres - Dr. L. Subramaniam's Global Fusion combines Carnatic (South Indian) music and Western classical, jazz, and rock.

The Rubin Museum will explore illusion and human perception in this year's edition of the popular Brainwave series of on-stage conversations between mind scientists and thinkers from diverse walks of life. Opening on February 6, the series will include 20 on-stage conversations, 50 film screenings, and an interactive experience in which the museum will become a Memory Palace. While illusion is usually associated with vision, the series will engage audiences through all five senses to provide a comprehensive understanding of the subject.

The cast is set for the U.S. premiere of "Backbeat," the dramatic new play with music about the birth of one of the greatest rock 'n' roll bands in history, the Beatles. "Backbeat" will have its U.S. premiere at the Ahmanson Theatre, with previews beginning January 20 and performances continuing through March 1, 2013. The opening is set for January 30.

On New Year's Eve, Chanhassen Dinner Theatres (CDT) will present a debut staging of THE BEATLES - A TRIBUTE CONCERT. This anthology of The Beatles' most popular hits dating from 1963 to 1970 will be performed by Jonny James and the Hall of Fames, a local band featuring the talents of such performers as Jonny James, Mike Menard, Andrew Thornbrough, Matt Riehle, and guesting in will be, Mike McDonough of the 'Rubber Soul' Beatles Tribute band. This concert performance will be celebrated on Chanhassen's Fireside stage for one performance only tonight evening, December 31.

HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX, starring Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Ralph Fiennes, Maggie Smith and Harry Melling, airs as the "ABC Today Movie of the Week," TONIGHT, DECEMBER 30 (8:00-11:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

HBO and Martin Scorsese will partner for a documentary spotlighting William Jefferson Clinton, 42nd President of the United States, it was announced today by Richard Plepler, recently named CEO, HBO and Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming. Made with Clinton's full cooperation, the film will explore his perspectives on history, politics, culture and the world, with Scorsese producing and directing, and Steve Bing producing.

Three-time GRAMMY® winner and renowned sitar player Ravi Shankar was a true pioneer in introducing Indian music to the West. He influenced artists across classical, jazz, pop, rock, and world music genres, including the Beatles, John Coltrane, Philip Glass, and his daughters, Norah Jones and Anoushka Shankar.

The Recording Academy (www.grammy.com) announced its Special Merit Awards recipients today, and this year's honorees are: Glenn Gould, Charlie Haden, Lightnin' Hopkins, Carole King, Patti Page, Ravi Shankar andthe Temptations as Lifetime Achievement Award recipients

Ravi Shankar, the renowned Indian composer and sitarist has passed away at the age of 92. The musician shot to international stardom in 1965 when Beatle George Harrison studied under him. Shankar received an Oscar nomination in 1982 for his score for the biopic film 'Gandhi.'

A collection of some of the most important pieces of George Harrison and Beatles memorabilia ever to be offered at auction will be included in Bonhams forthcoming Entertainment Memorabilia sale on 12th December 2012. The collection, which has never been available to the general public, was gifted by George Harrison to his brother Harry and other members of the family.

In 1988, John Lennon's wife Yoko Ono gave a candid interview to record-label president Joe Smith about the Beatles' split: "For John, it was a divorce. I think he was feeling very good about it, as if a big weight was off him."
