As suddenly as the first number ends, you're launched into the energetic 'Gotta Have Me Go with You,' Pope working her way through the crowd to the stage to join Brian Beach and Danny Bevins, her pair of enthusiastic backup dancers for the evening and the final pieces of her very complete transformation into Vicki Lester.

The In Series, which creates innovative theatrical programming around a classical music core of opera, cabaret, and song, presents a tune-filled look at the music of Irving Berlin, one of America's most celebrated composers. Artistic Director Carla Hubner notes in the program: "George Gershwin called Berlin 'the greatest songwriter that has ever lived.'" I tend to agree, although I would reserve that for Mr. Gershwin, but at the In Series, they crafted a delightful evening filled with some of his most memorable songs.

The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, under the direction of Conductor John Morris Russell, will ring in the New Year with the jazz band The Hot Sardines today, December 31 (8 p.m.) at the Taft Theatre in Downtown Cincinnati. The speakeasy-themed concert will feature jazz and swing selections, perfect for the Taft's Art Deco era architecture.
