Sydney Theatre Company to Present THE HANGING

The Hanging by STC's 2014 Patrick White Fellow, Angela Betzien, receives its world premiere at Sydney Theatre Company (STC) from 28 July to 10 September 2016. STC Resident Director Sarah Goodes and Resident Designer Elizabeth Gadsby are at the helm following their recent success with STC's Disgraced by Ayad Akhtar. The Hanging features Ashleigh Cummings of Network Ten's Puberty Blues alongside one of Australia's most versatile actors, Genevieve Lemon. Returning to STC following his highly regarded performance in last year's Battle of Waterloo by Kylie Coolwell, Luke Carroll completes the cast.

The Breadbox presents the World Premiere of THE AWAKENING, adapted for the stage by Oren Stevens and developed with Ariel Craft, based on Kate Chopin's revolutionary novel. The Breadbox Artistic Director Ariel Craft (The Pillowman, Blood Wedding, 'Tis Pity She's a Whore) helms this stunning production, breathing new life into Chopin's feminist masterwork. THE AWAKENING plays July 29 through August 20 (press opening: July 30) at EXIT Theatre (156 Eddy St.) in San Francisco. Gingold Theatrical Group's PROJECT SHAW, under the leadership of Artistic Director David Staller, continued its 11th Season with George Bernard Shaw's GENEVA. Written and first produced in 1938, Geneva is a wildly satirical political comedy. In it, a German Jew arrives in Geneva demanding a summit meeting designed to contain the increasingly dangerous behavior of three dictators, Herr Battler, Signor Bombardone, and General Flanco (parodies of Hitler, Mussolini and Franco). The three are brought before the International Criminal Court of the League of Nations to justify their atrocities.

Just last night, Irish Repertory Theatre presented FINIAN'S RAINBOW: IN CONCERT, this season's Gala Benefit production celebrating their return home to 22nd Street. Hosted by Saoirse Ronan, FINIAN'S RAINBOW: IN CONCERT featured performances by members of the Irish Rep cast in their original roles: Melissa Errico as 'Sharon,' Malcolm Gets as 'Og,' David Staller as 'the Narrator,' and Max Von Essen as 'Woody.' They were joined by Tony Award winner Jim Norton as 'Finian,' Megan Fairchild of New York City Ballet as 'Susan the Silent,' and a full chorus.
