From May 23 to June 11, 2016, the New York Philharmonic and Music Director Alan Gilbert will present the second NY PHIL BIENNIAL, a wide-ranging exploration of today's music by an array of contemporary and modern composers. A flagship project of the New York Philharmonic, the NY PHIL BIENNIAL brings together an international roster of composers, performers, and curatorial voices for concerts presented both on the Lincoln Center campus and in venues throughout the city.
Dawn Upshaw Opens Hartt's Seventh Garmany Season Tonight

The University of Hartford's The Hartt School kicks off its seventh season of the Richard P. Garmany Chamber Music Series with five-time Grammy Award-winning soprano Dawn Upshaw tonight, October 15, 2015, at 7:30 p.m., in Millard Auditorium, University of Hartford, 200 Bloomfield Avenue, West Hartford. Ms. Upshaw will perform in recital with her longtime pianist, Gilbert Kalish. Upshaw has achieved worldwide celebrity as a singer of opera and concert repertoire ranging from the sacred works of Bach to the freshest sounds of today, and in 2007 was the first vocalist to be awarded the McArthur Genius Grant.

Raleigh, N.C. - The North Carolina Symphony's Raleigh and Chapel Hill Classical seasons continue on Saturday, Oct. 24, at 8 p.m., in Meymandi Concert Hall in downtown Raleigh, and in Memorial Hall on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on Monday, Oct. 26, at 7:30 p.m., in “An Evening with Jeffrey & Gabriel Kahane,” a program that features father and son, pianist and conductor Jeffrey Kahane, and songwriter/composer/vocalist Gabriel Kahane.

Anthony de Mare's LIAISONS Transforms Sondheim Into Piano Pieces with the Help of Broadway Composers

Two additional performance dates have been added to pianist Anthony de Mare's concert tour of his new 3-CD album Liaisons: Re-Imaging Sondheim from The Piano. De Mare will perform selections from the recording at Bard College on November 2 and at Chicago's PianoForte Studios on December 12. The remaining tour dates include Virginia Tech in Blacksburg VA (September 18) and performances of ALL 36 piano works - split up over three concerts in New York at Birdland (September 24), The Sheen Center (October 22) and Symphony Space (November 19).

San Francisco Girls Chorus Releases Schedule of Upcoming 2015-2016 Season

San Francisco, CA August 7, 2015 – San Francisco Girls Chorus Artistic Director Lisa Bielawa has announced details of the 37-year-old, five-time Grammy Award-winning Chorus' 2015-2016 season, which will feature premieres by leading American composers and performances with a variety of noted guest artists. The four-program season runs October 30, 2015 through June 12, 2016 in San Francisco and the East Bay and features premieres by Aaron Jay Kernis, Gabriel Kahane and Theo Bleckmann and guest artists including New York early music ensemble TENET, soprano Deborah Voigt in a special American Christmas program at Davies Hall, cellist Joshua Roman and composer-pianist Timo Andres, all conducted by Music Director Valérie Sainte-Agathe. The season will be preceded by a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony with Venezuela's celebrated Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra and others under the baton of sensational conductor and LA Philharmonic Music Director Gustavo Dudamel September 25 at UC Berkeley's Greek Theatre. At the other end of the season will be the Chorus' return to New York's Lincoln Center in performances of music by Kernis, Kahane, Bleckmann and Bielawa. An evening with - the only - six-time Tony Award recipient Audra McDonald is more than listening to her rich, versatile voice sing both older and more recent treasures. Ms. McDonald chooses songs that have strong stories both for her and within the song itself. Her ability to capture these narratives through her voice is one of the many reasons Ms. McDonald is such a brilliant actress and singer. The opportunity to see Ms. McDonald work her magic live is enchanting, to say the least.
