Civic leaders and a star-studded cast will perform a one-night- only reading of "8, The Play," with Public Theatre of Southern California, with license from the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER) and Broadway Impact. "8, The Play," chronicles the historic trial in the federal constitutional challenge to California's Proposition 8, written by Academy Award-winning screenwriter and AFER Founding Board Member Dustin Lance Black. The performance will take place at 8 p.m. on Friday, September 21st at The Ernest Borgnine Theater, located at 855 Elm Avenue in downtown Long Beach.
Theater for the New City & Crystal Field (Artistic Director) have announced the cast and creative team for the world premiere of THE EDEN PROJECT, a new play devised by Stable Cable Lab Co., directed by Seth Hamlin, and choreographed by KC Luce as part of the 3rd annual Dream Up Festival. THE EDEN PROJECT will begin performances on Friday, August 24, 2012 at Theater for the New City (155 First Ave. - between 10th & 11th Streets). Sean Daniels, Geva's newly appointed Director of Artistic Engagement/Artist at Large, will head off to Estonia this week for "Stage Island" the International Seminar on Contemporary Playwriting on Hiiumaa Island. The seminar gathers a director, playwright, and dramaturg or literary advisor and team of actors from the USA and each of four Baltic nations: Estonia, Russia, Latvia, Lithuania and Finland, to develop new scripts from the participating countries and secure English translations for the plays developed during the conference. The conference will also establish new artistic contacts and collaborations between countries.
