Sundance Institute today announced filmmaker Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station) will be honored with theVanguard Award, presented by Tiffany & Co. Actress Kerry Washington will present the award to Coogler at the third annual 'Celebrate Sundance Institute' benefit on June 5, 2013 in Los Angeles. As previously announced, the benefit will also honor the life and work of beloved journalist and film critic Roger Ebert with the Vanguard Leadership Award in Memoriam, in recognition of his advocacy of independent cinema. The award will be presented by Sundance Institute President and Founder Robert Redford and accepted by Ebert's wife, Chaz Ebert.

Magnolia Pictures Acquires Distribution Rights to History Films' NO PLACE ON EARTH

The Wagner/Cuban Company's Magnolia Pictures announced today that the company is acquiring U.S. theatrical distribution rights to NO PLACE ON EARTH from HISTORY FILMS(TM), which has U.S. TV rights. The feature documentary tells the gripping story of a Jewish family who took refuge in a cave for nearly two years to evade Nazi capture. The acquisition announcement comes less than 48 hours following the film's world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on Monday night, where it received a lengthy standing ovation.

HISTORY FILMS(TM), RADiUS-TWC and PARTICIPANT MEDIA in association with Moxie Pictures will team up for THE UNKNOWN KNOWN: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF DONALD RUMSFELD, a feature documentary directed by Academy Award winner Errol Morris (The Fog of War; A Brief History of Time; The Thin Blue Line). The project was announced today by Nancy Dubuc, President and General Manager of HISTORY(R); Tom Quinn and Jason Janego, Co-Presidents of RADiUS-TWC; and Jim Berk, Chief Executive Officer of PARTICIPANT MEDIA. The film will be released theatrically next year in North America by RADiUS -TWC, the Weinstein Company's multi-platform label.
