Geoffrey Rush to Star as OLIVER! Composer Lionel Bart in Upcoming Musical Biopic

According to the Daily Mail, Geoffrey Rush will once again bridge the stage-screen gap by playing OLIVER! composer Lionel Bart in an upcoming biopic, directed by Vadim Jean. Filming is set to begin this fall.

BAFTA nominated Jessie Wallace (EastEnders) as Lil and Gary Kemp (Spandau Ballet, The Krays, The Bodyguard) as PC Collins will lead the cast in Fings Ain't Wot They Used T'Be, with Sarah Middleton as Rosie, Ruth Alfie Adams as Brenda, Will Barton as Percy and Suzie Chard as Betty, with further casting to be announced shortly.

With only 92 shopping days until Christmas, that means it's only 86 days until the opening of Britain's biggest pantomime at Birmingham Hippodrome. This was kindly reinforced to us by Michael Harrison, the Managing Director of the pantomime division at Qdos Entertainment and ultimately the Director of this year's Snow White and the Seven Dwarves at the venue. A frightening thought for many but not for pantomime lovers!

Collaborations - The Songs of Elliot Davis is the latest offering from SimG Records, who are at the forefront of championing new musical theatre. This album features songs from the Olivier-nominated 'Loserville', 'Out There' and 'Best Friends and Butterflies' and are written by the aforementioned Davis with assistance from other esteemed writers such as his 'Loserville' partner James Bourne, Anthony Drewe, Adam Bard and Sam Kenyon.

Uptown Players, a professional theater group located in the Uptown area of Dallas, has announced its 2014 season at the Kalita Humphreys Theater, which will feature the regional premieres of the 2013 Tony Award winning play, Vanya, Sonia, Masha and Spike, the 2012 Tony nominated play The Lyons, the 2004 Tony award winning musical, The Boy From Oz, plus the return of an audience favorite, Pageant. Uptown Players will also present its annual fundraising performance - Broadway Our Way, which will be held in January 2014. In April, Uptown Players will join forces with the Turtle Creek Chorale for a concert version of Sweeney Todd at the City Performance Hall. As its summer bonus show, Uptown Players will present the U.S. premiere of the West End hit musical Soho Cinders.

LOSERVILLE is an original musical, written by ex-Busted singer/songwriter James Bourne and writer/composer Elliot Davis, was commissioned and produced by Youth Music Theatre UK at the Wilde Theatre, South Hill Park Arts Centre, Bracknell in 2009. It was subsequently optioned by Kevin Wallace for professional production and premiered at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds in June 2012.
