Dance/NYC, New York City's leading organization dedicated to promoting the knowledge, appreciation, practice, and performance of dance in the metropolitan area, will host an Immigrants. Dance. Arts. Conference on Thursday, November 8, 2018, presented in partnership with the New York City Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs and The Kupferberg Center for the Arts at Queens College with performances curated by Queens Theatre. This free, day-long series of convening will gather leaders in dance and immigrant communities to consider the role of dance artistry in fostering the inclusion, integration, and human rights of local immigrants. The night remained forever young at this year's Bessies, what with live performances, videos, tearful and grinning thank you's, hugs and cheers for the new slew of winners, and a costume sashay thrown into wild mix of celebration that took place tonight, October 8, at the NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. As a prelude to the goings-on inside, impromptu dance performances, including Simone Forti's "Huddle," took place outside. Ayodele Casel and Shernita Anderson hosted the evening.

State Theatre New Jersey presents America's premier Latino dance organization Ballet Hispanico on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at 8pm. Through the work of its professional company, school of dance, and community arts education programs, Ballet Hispanico celebrates the dynamic aesthetics of the Hispanic diaspora. This program features three dance pieces all choreographed by women. The program includes Con Brazos Abiertos choreographed by Michelle Manzanales, Sombrerisimo by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, and 3.Catorce Dieciseis by Tania Perez-Salas. Tickets range from $19-$49.

Two groundbreakers, Brooklyn Arts Exchange founder/director Marya Warshaw and avant-garde choreographer and dancer Simone Forti, have been tapped to receive The Bessies' highest honors. Warshaw, who will receive the 2018 NY Dance and Performance Award for Service to the Field of Dance and Forti, selected for the 2018 NY Dance and Performance Award for Lifetime Achievement in Dance, will be honored during the October 8 ceremony at NYU's Skirball Center for the Performing Arts.

Bronx Charter School for the Arts' students, staff, families and supporters have a lot to be excited about heading back-to-school. On Thursday, Aug. 30, educators, national leaders from the Arts community, elected officials, families and students will join the ribbon-cutting celebration as Bronx Arts opens a middle school for 6th-8th grade students. The middle school is located in the Soundview section of the Bronx, less than half a mile from the Bronx Arts Elementary School, the leading elementary school in the community. School administrators say the lottery selection process for the middle school attracted more than 280 interested rising 6th grade students and families and filled 75 available seats. The school will add additional 6th grade classes annually, reaching capacity in the 2020-2021 school year.
