No, it does. Literally. The Porchlight Music Theatre opened its 15th anniversary season this month with The Fantasticks. Based on Edmond Rostand's Les Romanesques with music by Harvey Schmidt and a book and lyrics by Tom Jones, this classic has produced Broadway standards such as "Try to Remember." The Fantasticks is simple parable about love and all of its intricacies. Our Romeo and Juliet-esque heroes learn through the difficulties of maturity that fulfillment is found no further than their own backyard in each other arms. The current production is running at the Theatre Building Chicago now through November 15, 2009.

New Edgecliff Theatre has announced their twelfth season - and it's 'Twisted'. Aiming as always to both entertain and provoke, the NET 2009-10 season includes Peter Shaffer's award-winning Equus and a world premiere of an original production based on the classic play Cyrano. New Edgecliff also brings back two favorites: the Halloween 'Sweet Suspense' radio theatre fundraiser, and the holiday treat, The Santaland Diaries.

Repertory Philippines celebrates the golden anniversary of THE FANTASTICKS by mounting its own production at Onstage Theater, Greenbelt 1, Makati City July 3-16.

The 2009 Summer Shakespeare Festival includes TWELFTH NIGHT, a delightful tale of wild infatuation and mistaken identities, CORIOLANUS a powerful political drama tells the story of the great Roman general whose arrogance leads to his own downfall and Edmond Rostand's CYRANO DE BERGERAC, about a war hero, philosopher and dazzling swordsman, Cyrano. Cyrano has it all - except the woman of his dreams - the lovely Roxane. Playing in nightly repertory in the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre, June 13 - September 27.

Edmond Rostand's CYRANO DE BERGERAC is a theatrical paradox. The notoriously picky John Simon called it 'not a great play, merely a perfect one.' Be that as it may, companies mounting the show usually find that though this play is very hard to ruin, it's also nearly impossible to get completely right.

On Tuesday, May 5th, CYRANO (with music by Frank Wildhorn and book & lyrics by Leslie Bricusse) opened in Tokyo to what was reported to be a rapturous ovation. CYRANO stars Takeshi Kaga (star of Jekyll & Hyde and Les Miserables) and is produced by Toho Company, HoriPro, and Fuji Television, Cyrano plays at the famous Nissay Theatre. After a run in Tokyo, the show will play Osaka at the Umeda Art Theatre and then tour Japan.

Shakespeare Festival will feature two works by Shakespeare, Twelfth Night and Coriolanus, along with Edmond Rostand's celebrated classic, Cyrano de Bergerac. The three productions will be performed in nightly rotation in the Globe's outdoor Lowell Davies Festival Theatre June 13 - September 27, 2009.
