Harlem Stage to Present 17th Edition of E-MOVES, 4/7-9

Harlem Stage is pleased to present the seventeenth edition of their acclaimed dance series E-Moves. This year Harlem Stage has commissioned four evolving choreographers to create exciting new collaborative works with musicians and visual artists. This year's choreographers include Davalois Fearon, Desiree Godsell, Jason Samuels Smith and Laurie M. Taylor.To further support the development of the commissioned works, Harlem Stage has paired each of the artists with a mentor uniquely positioned to provide guidance and insight. This year's mentors are Ted Louis Levy, who is working with Samuels Smith; Nia Love, who is working with Fearon; Edisa Weeks, who is working with Taylor; and Marya Wethers, who is working with Godsell.

Jock Soto & Carmelita Tropicana to Host 31st Annual Bessie Awards

The NY Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, announce the lineup of special guests for the 2015 ceremony. Acclaimed former New York City Ballet principal Jock Soto and performance artist and playwright Carmelita Tropicana will host the event. The 31st Annual Bessie Awards will be held on Monday, October 19, at 7:30pm, at the legendary Apollo Theater in New York City. Doors open at 6:30pm for red carpet and pre-show celebrations.

Free Dance at Socrates Sculpture Park to be Held in August

 Norte Maar, a committed international think-tank dedicated to the creation, promotion, and presentation of collaborations in the disciplines of the visual, literary, and the performing arts, presents the Dance at Socrates choreographic and performance residency, August 3- 27. In it's third season, and in collaboration with Socrates Sculpture Park, this summer dance series brings New York-based choreographers and their dancers to the East River waterfront to develop a site-specific dance on a newly constructed stage within the park. This year's choreographers include Randy James (10 Hairy Legs Projects), Edisa Weeks (DELIRIOUS Dances), Christopher Rudd (RudduR Dance), Gierre Godley (Project 44), Laura Gemitti and Katharine Morales (L & K Dance), Meagan Woods, Julia K. Gleich (Gleich Dances), BOOMERANG, and Brynt Beitman.

The New York Dance and Performance Awards (The Bessies), New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, today announced the nominees for the 2014-15 season at its annual press conference. The 37 nominees were selected by the Bessies Selection Committee, an independent committee of 39 dance industry professionals. Produced in partnership with Dance/NYC, Bessie Award categories include Outstanding Production, Outstanding Revival, Outstanding Performer, Outstanding Music Composition or Sound Design, and Outstanding Visual Design. NEW YORK, September 30, 2014 - The New York Dance and Performance Awards (The Bessies), NYC's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, announced today the host of the anniversary ceremony that is to be held at the legendary Apollo Theater. Broadway playwright, actress and 1993 Bessie awardee Lisa Kron will host the 30th Annual Bessie Awards. Produced in partnership with Dance/NYC, the awards will take place October 20, 7:30 p.m. Nominees will arrive starting 6:00 p.m. for Red Carpet press interviews and photo opportunities.

Muna Tseng Dance Projects Responds to Chuck Ginnever Sculptures at Riverside Park Today

s, The New York Department of Parks & Recreation, Chuck Ginnever, and Gayle Maxon-Edgerton, GME LLC, announce two special evening performances by the Muna Tseng Dance Projects today, May 17 and May 24 at 7pm, whose newly commissioned choreography will directly engage with an exhibition of monumental steel sculptures by noted American artist, Chuck Ginnever. Medusa and High Rise, currently on view at Riverside Park at 145th Street, is situated overlooking the metal ice breakers and the George Washington Bridge, and has inspired the dance troupe's second collaboration with the artist, nearly thirty years after their first project together.
