The Actors Fund Expands at 729 Seventh Avenue; Extends Lease to 2030

Himmel + Meringoff announced today that The Actors Fund of America has expanded at 729 Seventh Avenue, increasing its office space by 50 percent from 22,400 square feet to 33,600 square feet. With the addition announced today, the organization will remain at the building into 2030.

Hollywood Foreign Press Association Funds Half-Million-Dollar Restoration and Upgrades to the Egyptian Theatre

The American Cinematheque announced today that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) has awarded a $500,000 grant to fund maintenance and essential technical upgrades to the historic 1922 Egyptian Theatre, a designated historic cultural monument situated on iconic Hollywood Boulevard. News of this grant comes less than a week after the HFPA announced at their annual Grants Banquet a completely separate donation of $350,000 to help make the theatre capable of screening 35mm nitrate film prints, a grant that was made through The Film Foundation which is coordinating the project.

Breaking: Jake Gyllenhaal Will Return to Broadway in BURN THIS at The Hudson Theatre

This winter, thirty years after it first premiered at Circle Repertory Company, producers Stacey Mindich and Jessica R. Jenen will present the first-ever Broadway revival of Lanford Wilson's acclaimed play, Burn This, directed by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer, and starring Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal. The play will re-open Ambassador Theatre Group's historic Hudson Theatre (139-141 West 44th St) on Broadway. Performances begin February 2017, with an opening night set for Monday, March 6, 2017.

Pacific Symphony to Perform THE MARK OF ZORRO, 5/1

Orange County, Calif.—April 7, 2016—Swashbuckling musical adventures and exciting swordfights explode on screen when acclaimed organist Dennis James returns to Pacific Symphony to recreate the soundtrack to the 1920 silent-film masterpiece, “The Mark of Zorro.” Starring the legendary Douglas Fairbanks in the double role of Don Diego Vega/Señor Zorro, the Symphony's organ concert sets imaginations ablaze and sensations reverberating when the mighty “King of Instruments” thunders forth for this special movie matinee. In the skilled hands of James, indescribable sounds emanate from the 4,322 pipes of the commanding William J. Gillespie Concert Organ to provide the film's original score, as the classic movie plays overhead. Fairbanks biographer Jeffrey Vance writes, “The Mark of Zorro is a landmark, not only in the career of Douglas Fairbanks, but also in the development of the action adventure film.”

Historic Regent Theatre Announces Centennial Gala

? In 1916, Woodrow Wilson was President and Europe was in the thick of World War I.  The State of Montana elected the first woman representative in Congress and the U.S. National Park Service was created by an act of Congress.  Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, and Mae Marsh were some of the entertainment stars of the day, appearing on marquees across the country.  In the midst of the silent film era, the Regent Theatre first opened its doors on April 24, 1916. A state of the art theater at the time, it was said "There is no city or town that can boast of a more beautiful motion picture theatre."
