La Jolla Playhouse presents An Iliad, a one-man adaptation of Homer's classic tale, adapted by Denis O'Hare (Tony Award-winning actor in Take Me Out) and Lisa Peterson (director of The Playhouse's Surf Report and Be Aggressive), based on a translation by Robert Fagles, directed by Lisa Peterson. A co-production with Berkeley Repertory Theatre, An Iliad features Henry Woronicz as the "Poet," with Brian Ellingsen as the "Musician" and runs now through September 9 in the Mandell Weiss Forum. La Jolla Playhouse has just announced casting for its upcoming production of An Iliad, a one-man adaptation of Homer's classic tale, adapted by Denis O'Hare (Tony Award-winning actor in Take Me Out) and Lisa Peterson (director of the Playhouse's Surf Report and Be Aggressive), based on a translation by Robert Fagles, directed by Lisa Peterson. La Jolla Playhouse announces its first production of the 2012/13 season: the world-premiere musical Hands on a Hardbody, written by Pulitzer Prize winner and La Jolla Playhouse 2011 Gala Honoree Doug Wright (I Am My Own Wife), Amanda Green (Bring It On: The Musical) and Trey Anastasio of the popular band Phish, with direction by Neil Pepe (Speed-the-Plow) and choreography by Benjamin Millepied (BLACK SWAN), running tonight, April 27 through June 10, 2012 in the Mandell Weiss Theatre.
Steven Sater & Duncan Sheik's THE NIGHTINGALE to Play La Jolla Playhouse in July

La Jolla Playhouse just announced that The Nightingale, by the creative team behind the Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakening: Steven Sater (book and lyrics) and Duncan Sheik (music), directed by Tony Award nominee Moises Kaufman (33 Variations), will be part of the Playhouse's 2012/2013 season. Running in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre July 10 - August 5, 2012, The Nightingale will be presented as part of the Playhouse's acclaimed Page To Stage Play Development Program.

La Jolla Playhouse has announced that its acclaimed production of Moving Arts' The Car Plays: San Diego has been extended due to popular demand. The Car Plays: San Diego will now run two additional dates: Saturday, March 10 and Sunday, March 11, with performances at 3:00 pm, 4:30 pm, 7:00 pm and 8:30 pm each day. Tickets are $25 and are available online at LaJollaPlayhouse.org or by calling (858) 550-1010.

La Jolla Playhouse has announced the cast and creative team for its production of American Night: The Ballad of Juan Jose, written by Richard Montoya (Zorro in Hell) for Culture Clash, developed by Culture Clash and Jo Bonney (The Seven, Adoration of the Old Woman), directed by Jo Bonney. A co-production with Center Theatre Group and originally commissioned and produced by the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, American Night: The Ballad of Juan Jose will run January 27 - February 26, 2012 in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre.
Tom Hewitt to Remain in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR for Broadway Run?

Earlier this week, La Jolla Playhouse announced a casting update for its current presentation of the acclaimed Stratford Shakespeare Festival production of Jesus Christ Superstar, lyrics by Tim Rice, music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, directed by Playhouse Director Emeritus and Stratford Shakespeare Festival Artistic Director Des McAnuff. Beginning Wednesday, December 7, Broadway veteran Tom Hewitt (Playhouse's Zhivago and Dracula: The Musical) will perform the role of Pontius Pilate for a limited engagement at the Playhouse. Whether Hewitt will remain in the production through the Broadway transfer remains unknown, but Stratford Shakespeare Festival has released the following statement:

La Jolla Playhouse announces two more productions for its 2012/13 season: An Iliad, a one-man adaptation of Homer's classic tale, adapted by Lisa Peterson (Surf Report, Be Aggressive) and Denis O'Hare (Take Me Out), from a translation by Robert Fagles, directed by Lisa Peterson. The production will run June 19 - July 15, 2012 in the Mandell Weiss Forum. The Playhouse will also present David Mamet's Pulitzer Prize-winning Glengarry Glen Ross, directed by Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley, running February 2 - March 3, 2013 in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre.
