La Jolla Playhouse Announces SLEEPING BEAUTY WAKES, 7/19-8/21

La Jolla Playhouse announces the sixth and final production in its 2011/12 season: a new adaptation of Sleeping Beauty Wakes, book by Rachel Sheinkin (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), with a score by composer Brendan Milburn and lyricist Valerie Vigoda, both of the acclaimed trio GrooveLily (Striking 12, Long Story Short), directed by Rebecca Taichman, who will also direct the Playhouse's 2011/12 world premiere of Milk Like Sugar.

La Jolla Playhouse announced the fifth production in its 2011/12 season: Finding Neverland, book by Allan Knee, with a score by the Grey Gardens writing team of Scott Frankel (music) and Michael Korie (lyrics), directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Rob Ashford (Cry-Baby, Thoroughly Modern Millie).

La Jolla Playhouse announced today the cast and creative team of its upcoming world-premiere musical Little Miss Sunshine, by the Tony Award-winning creative team of composer/lyricist William Finn and playwright/director James Lapine. Mr. Lapine has enjoyed a long association with the Playhouse, having previously directed Merrily We Roll Along (1985) and Luck, Pluck and Virtue (1993). The production runs February 15 - March 27, 2011 in the Mandell Weiss Theatre.

SD City Council Names 9/28 'La Jolla Playhouse Tony Award Day'

La Jolla Playhouse is pleased to announce that San Diego City Council will issue a proclamation designating Tuesday, September 28, 2010 to be La Jolla Playhouse 2010 Tony Award Day, in celebration of the 2010 Tony Award win for the hit Broadway musical Memphis, directed by Playhouse Artistic Director Christopher Ashley. Memphis highlighted the Playhouse's 2008/9 season before transferring to New York. The proclamation will be presented to Ashley by District 1 City Councilmember Sherri S. Lightner on September 28 at 10:00 am at City Council chambers (202 C Street, 12th Floor, San Diego).

Cankerblossom will run August 12 - 15, 2010 in the Mandell Weiss Forum, with performances Thursday, August 12 at 7:00 pm; Friday, August 13 at 7:00 pm; Saturday, August 14 at 2:30 pm and 7:00 pm and Sunday, August 15 at 2:30 pm. Tickets are $25 for adults; $20 for subscribers and $15 for children 12 and under.
