Metal Scribe Al Necro Releases New Book

If you've been a fan of Alaric Al Necro Cabiling's work for Cvlt Nation, Echoes and Dust, and formerly for Summoning Spirits at SummoningSpirits.net and for Metal Rules at MetalRules.com, 'Insanity By Increments' will reveal a different side of his love for writing. 'Insanity By Increments' is a contemporary rendition of the Gothic fiction template popularized by authors such as Edgar Allan Poe, Mary Shelley and Nathaniel Hawthorne. 'Insanity By Increments' will feature contemporary themes, plotlines and/or dialogue used by the aforementioned greats of the sub-genre, to exciting results. 'Insanity By Increments' has been given five star reviews by Diane Donovan of Midwest Book Review and Jack Magnus of Reader's Favorite. 'Modern literary short fiction is not unusual: many attempt it; relatively few do it well - especially in the style of the gothic horror approach so aptly explored by Poe, Hawthorne, and other greats. That's why it's such a pleasure to read 'Insanity by Increments': it takes some of the methods and madness of these greats and moves a step further, presenting nine short stories of contemplation and quiet horror.' - Diane Donovan 'Cabiling is a master at creating moods, especially those which border on the macabre, the obsessive and the melancholy. Each word seems selected carefully, examined and put in place just so, and the flawed and flailing characters he peoples his work with become almost familiar to the reader as he himself is...and that's a pretty scary thing, and the handiwork of a powerful and creative writer.' - Jack Magnus 'Insanity By Increments' will delight and shock fans for years to come. Check it out and get a copy today. Promo special: Barnes and Noble is now selling the Nook Book download of Insanity By Increments for just $0.99 Promo copies of Insanity By Increments are also available to interested reviewers. Alaric is also available for interviews. Please contact him at alaric dot cabiling at gmail dot com

BWW Reviews: Mark Dendy Complicates Astor Place History

Books are the structure around which Mark Dendy's NEWYORKnewyork @ Astor Place is built. The cramped Joe's Pub stage is set with an abstracted skyline of books, soon to be destroyed by Mei Yamanaka as she embodies the forces of gentrification that Dendy not-so-subtly suggests are destroying our twice-named city. The piece itself is painstakingly researched, pulling together historical moments from 1848 to the present to tell the story of the Astor Place Library (where the Public Theater now sits), a story intertwined with the artists and activists it housed, displaced, informed, and inflamed.

Review: SPAMALOT Thrills Spectators at Dearborn Players Thru May 24

Now on stage at The Players' Guild of Dearborn is the wonderful musical comedy SPAMALOT. Set sometime in the early middle ages, this highly irreverent parody of the Arthurian Legend is bursting with wit. The opening act is theatre of the absurd in all its glory, when the villagers mistake the word Finland for England, and begin dancing and singing some outrageous 'slap the mayor in the face with a big fish' routine. Having Finnish blood, and Anglo-Scandinavian heritage, in general, I found this twisted plot deliciously insane, because I know people who would actually get the two places confused, and others who believe Scandinavians toss fish around at celebrations. Well, maybe some Scandinavians do, but that's another story all unto itself.
