Mirror Stage will close its Feed Your Mind season with the Northwest premiere of Detroit '67 by Dominique Morisseau this weekend, April 5 & 6, 2014 at the Ethnic Cultural Theatre in Seattle's University District.
Following the successful, award-winning 2013 co-production of Detroit '67 written by Dominique Morisseau, Dr. Barbara Ann Teer's National Black Theatre (NBT) and The Classical Theatre of Harlem (CTH) officially announce their second co-production. The famed Harlem arts institutions will produce the 50th Anniversary revival of 'Dutchman' by LeRoi Jones (Amiri Baraka) from April 30 to May 23, 2014. Carl Cofield will direct the revival.

Just last night, Columbia University, Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith and Tony Kushner honored the winners of the 2014 Edward M. Kennedy Prize for Drama Inspired by American History with a program and reception at Columbia University. The winner of the 2014 Kennedy Prize is Dominique Morisseau for Detroit '67. Morisseau received a cash award of $100,000. The event honoring her work featured remarks by Carlos Alonso, Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences; Tony Kushner, Edward M. People's Light & Theatre has announced its 40th Anniversary Season that celebrates the passion and artistry that created and sustained our company. The season includes one world premiere, two regional premieres, and one Philadelphia premiere. Directed by Derrick Sanders, the Pulitzer Prize and two-time Tony Award-winning play will feature veteran film and television actor Carl Lumbly as Troy Maxson, Steven Anthony Jones, the artistic director of Lorraine Hansberry Theatre, as Jim Bono and award-winning actor, playwright and director Margo Hall as Rose, as well as Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Eddy Ray Jackson as Cory, Adrian Roberts as Gabriel, Tyee Tilghman as Lyons and two Marin City youths - Jade Sweeney, who attends Willow Creek Academy, and Makaelah Bashir, Bayside Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy - splitting the role of Raynell.

According to the unanimous jury, Detroit '67 'explores an explosive and decisive moment in a great American city' and has 'compelling characters struggle with racial tension and economic instability.' Directed by Suzanne M. Cohen, Mirror Stage's Feed Your Mind presentation of Detroit '67 features Jonte Ausler (Sly), Treavor Boykin (Lank), Adria LaMorticella (Caroline), Takia Thompson (Bunny) and Shontina Vernon (Chelle), with sound design by Joseph Swartz.

In commemoration of the birthday of the late Trayvon Martin, Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company will join theatres across the country in producing a staged reading of Facing Our Truth: Ten-Minute Plays on Trayvon, Race, and Privilege on Wednesday, February 5 at 7:30pm in the Melton Rehearsal Hall at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company. Activities will also include an activism fair to begin at 6:30pm and a post-read panel discussion. The reading, discussion, and activism fair will be co-presented with African Continuum Theatre Company.

The Lark Play Development Center announces a BareBones workshop production of Skeleton Crew by Dominique Morisseau (Detroit '67 and Sunset Baby), the third and final play in her Detroit cycle, to be directed by Artistic Director of Baltimore's Center Stage and Chancellor of the University of the Arts London, Kwame Kwei-Armah. The workshop will run at Lark's BareBones Studio from February 21 - March 3 at 311 West 43rd Street in New York City. All tickets will be free and will open for reservations in January.
In light of the murder of Trayvon Martin, The New Black Fest commissioned a diverse group of playwrights to write 10-minute plays reflecting on the tragedy. With these plays, The New Black Fest's wish is that serious discussion is incited in our communities around these urgent issues. MTC's production of Fences will run from April 10 through May 4.
