Performance Network Theatre Opens 2013-14 Season with AN ILIAD, Now thru 10/27

A contemporary theatrical dramatization of Homer's masterpiece, 'An Iliad' adapted by Lisa Peterson and Denis O'Hare makes its Michigan Premiere tonight, September 26 through October 27, 2013 with an all star cast and high-end designers at Performance Network Theatre, Michigan's most award winning professional theatre as their season opener.

Classic Stage Company Pushes First ROMEO & JULIET Preview to 9/28

Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, announced today that its upcoming production of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet, starring Elizabeth Olsen as Juliet and Julian Cihi as Romeo, directed by Tea Alagi?, will now begin previews Saturday, September 28 at 3 pm, one day later than originally scheduled. The shift is due to a scenic element modification that will require additional technical rehearsal later this week. The official press opening remains Wednesday, October 16.

Classic Stage Company Extends Elizabeth Olsen & Julian Cihi-Led ROMEO & JULIET Through 11/10

Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, announced today that its upcoming production of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet starring Elizabeth Olsen as Juliet and Julian Cihi as Romeo, directed by Tea Alagi? will extend for one additional week through Sunday, November 10. Previews begin Friday, September 27 prior to an official press opening Wednesday, October 16. The cast also features McKinley Belcher III (Benvolio), Daniel Davis (Friar Laurence), Stan Demidoff (Paris/Sampson), Harry Ford (Gregory, Friar John, Watchman), David Garrison(Capulet), T. R. Knight (Mercutio), Anthony Michael Martinez (Prince), Kathryn Meisle (Lady Capulet), Dion Mucciacito (Tybalt), John Rothman(Montague/Apothecary) and Daphne Rubin-Vega (Nurse). Set design is by Marsha Ginsberg; costumes by Clint Ramos, lighting by Jason Lyons, and original music and sound by Ryan Rumery.

VENUS IN FUR, OTHER DESERT CITIES & More Set for Performance Network's 2013-14 Season

Performance Network is proud to announce its 2013 -2014 season with epic plays and a musical revue extravaganza for its 32nd season in their intimate theatre located in Downtown Ann Arbor. The very first play of the season, 'An Iliad' adapted by Denis O'Hare and Lisa Peterson, begins on September 26th, 2013 as a one-man contemporary retelling of the famous poem, followed by 'Jerry's Girls' with music and lyrics by Jerry Herman and concept by Larry Alford, Wayne Cilento, and Jerry Herman, the World Premiere of 'County Line' by Ann Arbor playwright David Wells, the sexy 'Venus in Fur' by David Ives, a reimagined 'Richard III' by William Shakespeare, Pulitzer Prize Finalist 'Other Desert Cities' by Jon Robin Baitz, and the World Premiere of 'The Renaissance Man' by Joseph Zettelmaier closing on September 7, 2014. The epically intimate season features works by famous and premiering playwrights that are cherished by New York and local critics while bringing diverse plays to the stage. Court Theatre to Present AN ILIAD Revival, 11/13-12/8

Court Theatre continues its 2013-2014 season with the revival of the OBIE Award-winning play An Iliad by Denis O'Hare and Lisa Peterson, directed by Artistic Director Charles Newell and starring Timothy Edward Kane. An Iliad will run November 13 - December 8, 2013 at Court Theatre, 5535 S. Ellis Avenue.

Julian Cihi to Join Elizabeth Olsen in Classic Stage's ROMEO & JULIET; Daniel Davis Replaces William Hurt

Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, announced complete casting today for its upcoming production of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet starring Elizabeth Olsen as Juliet. Julian Cihi has been cast as Romeo. Daniel Davis replacesWilliam Hurt as Friar Laurence. Hurt has withdrawn from the production for personal reasons. Previously announced Emmy Award nominee T.R. Knight(Mercutio) and Tony Award nominee Daphne Rubin-Vega (Nurse) will be joined by McKinley Belcher III (Benvolio), Stan Demidoff (Paris/Sampson),Harry Ford (Gregory, Friar John, Watchman), David Garrison (Capulet), Anthony Michael Martinez (Prince), Kathryn Meisle (Lady Capulet), Dion Mucciacito (Tybalt) and John Rothman (Montague/Apothecary). CSC's Romeo & Juliet, which begins performances Friday, September 27, will be directed byTea Alagi? (Jackie). Set design is by Marsha Ginsberg; costumes by Clint Ramos, lighting by Jason Lyons and sound by Ryan Rumery. The official opening night is Wednesday, October 16. Romeo & Juliet will play a limited engagement through Sunday, November 3. Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, September 4 at 12pm.

Fifty-three of Broadway's brightest and most compassionate stars spent last night sleeping on the streets outside the Covenant House crisis shelter in Manhattan in solidarity with the 300 homeless young people living inside.The first-ever Covenant House Broadway Sleep Out raised over $136,000 to provide food, clothing, shelter, and hope for homeless youth.

Pink Martini, Denis O'Hare, Mario Cantone and More Join Scottsdale Center's 2013-14 Season

Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts has added more than a dozen new performances to its star-studded 2013-14 season. Among the highlights will be concerts with the retro-hip, multilingual 'little orchestra' Pink Martini on Jan. 21 and Grammy Award-winning singer Aaron Neville onMarch 22; actor Denis O'Hare (HBO's True Blood) performing An Iliad, a one-man show based on Homer's epic about the Trojan War, on April 3-4; and a night of irreverent stand-up with actor and comedian Mario Cantone (Sex and the City) on May 10.

Man of Steel is the blockbuster hit of the summer, and Michael Shannon, who stars as 'General Zod,' and Zachary Quinto, Star Trek and 'American Horror Story' star, are among the top celebrities scheduled to attend Wizard World Chicago Comic Con, today, August 8-11 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. Paramount Theatre Adds Larry the Cable Guy & More to 2013-14 Lineup

Last March, the Paramount Theatre, 23 E. Galena Blvd. in downtown Aurora, caused a big stir among its nearly 20,000 subscribers by revealing a blockbuster line-up for its 2013-14 Broadway Subscription Series: IN THE HEIGHTS (September 11-October 6, 2013); MISS SAIGON (October 30-November 24, 2013); 42ND STREET (January 15-February 9, 2014); and RENT (March 12-April 6, 2014).
