From the elegant cocktail reception, to the stunning performance, the sumptuous dinner and the extraordinary VIP after-party, Broadway in the Berkshires, Shakespeare & Company's Gala Celebration was a resounding hit! On July 9, Artistic Director Tony Simotes welcomed a full house at the Tina Packer Playhouse (formerly Founders' Theatre) and a multitude of Broadway, opera and dance artists for the spectacular one-night-only benefit performance. Shakespeare & Company Artistic Director Tony Simotes announces a special one-night-only Benefit Performance of BROADWAY IN THE BERKSHIRES tonight, July 8th at The Tina Packer Playhouse, 70 Kemble Street, Lenox, MA. Proceeds from the event will benefit Shakespeare & Company's internationally-acclaimed Education and Training Programs.

In the spirit of Shakespeare & Company's 12th annual Fourth of July Celebrations, Artistic Director Tony Simotes welcomes back many special guests to join in on the festivities including Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, State Senator Benjamin Downing, and Massachusetts State Representative Smitty Pignatelli, all of whom will partake in the readings as well as being involved in other exciting ancillary events, including a surprise performance of the outrageous Nickel Shakespeare Girls, surrounding the Fourth of July holiday. Festivities begin at 1:30 PM with a public All-American BBQ (a la carte) followed by the historic reading at 3 PM under the big top tent at Shakespeare & Company's 70 Kemble Street property. This event is FREE and open to the public.

Master Class runs from May 24th through August 18th in S&Co.'s Elayne P. Bernstein Theatre.

Shakespeare & Company Artistic Director Tony Simotes announces the benefit performance of Broadway in the Berkshires that will take place on Monday, July 8th at The Tina Packer Playhouse, 70 Kemble Street, Lenox, MA.

Eight-time Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken will take us on a unique musical journey through his renowned and beloved songs. This special performance will include a Q&A with the artist and will be followed by a dessert reception with desserts donated by Fairway Market and cheese donated by Murray's Cheese. Mr. Menken will be joined by three distinguished Belvoir Terrace alumnae: Deborah Grausman, Emma Rosenthal, and Nora Menken, who will each sing a Menken song, accompanied by Diane Marcus, Camp Director and Belvoir Alumna. The benefit performance will take place in the Kaufman Center's beautiful concert venue, Merkin Hall, tonight, February 28th at 7pm. The money raised will go to the Edna Y. Schwartz Scholarship Fund for talented young women to attend the prestigious arts camp, nestled in the heart of the Berkshires, in Lenox, MA.

Broadway's Chip Zien (Into the Woods-the original Baker, Les Miserables, The Country Girl, People in The Picture, Falsettos, Grand Hotel, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Boys from Syracuse, etc.) was the host. Director Sam Scalamoni (Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Lestat) and Music Director Paul Staroba (A L ittle Night Music, Next to Normal , Grey Gardens ) headed up the creative team.

Seattle's Paramount Theatre is currently presenting the tour of the Tony winning classic "Fiddler on the Roof" starring the unstoppable force of nature that is Harvey Fierstein. And while this show has never been one that I could get into, the cast infused it with enough heart and humor that even a non-fan like me had an enjoyable evening.

Tradition is back! Harvey Fierstein reprises his Broadway role as Tevye in the North American Tour of the Tony® Award-winning musical FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, playing the National Theatre April 13 through May 9, 2010.

Harvey Fierstein and the company of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF raised over $6,000 for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS at their benefit cabaret, RAISING THE ROOF, in Washington, DC this past Monday.

Harvey Fierstein and the cast of the national touring company of Fiddler on the Roof will perform Raising the Roof, a cabaret to benefit the national non-profit, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, at Town Danceboutique, a premiere gay dance club and performance venue.
