The theatre community lost one of our own on Christmas Day. Actor David Ryall, best recognized in America as Elphias Doge in Harry Potter, has died at age 79, according to reports.
It's hard to watch - it really is. David Ryall, now approaching 80, who plays the King who is losing his mind, is a real-life majestic actor who is, post chemotherapy, losing his memory - his reliance on a black book with the text highlighted may be a necessity, but it's a poignant reminder that Shakespeare captured mankind, and not merely a man, in his writing.
In a recent interview with Harper's Bazaar, stage and screen star Rebecca Hall chats about her return to the stage in TWELFTH NIGHT at The National Theatre. The Golden Globe nominated daughter of British director Peter Hall reveals: 'My general rule is one piece of theatre for every three films. I think it's how to preserve one's mystique. I like disappearing, and I think I'll always do it.'
UK Daily Mail reports that Marton Csokas and Rebecca Hall will co-star in the National Theatre's TWELFTH NIGHT as 'Orsino' and 'Viola,' respectively. The production, directed by Peter Hall, will begin rehearsals in late November. The rest of the cast includes Simon Callow (Sir Toby Belch), Amanda Drew (Olivia), Simon Paisley Day (Malvolio), Charles Edwards (Aguecheek), Finty Williams (Maria), David Ryall (Feste), and Samuel James (Fabian).
