The Melbourne Cabaret Festival has launched a professional development program alongside its diverse performance program.

The venerable Symphony Hall stage served as ground zero for the humor of David Sedaris as part of the Celebrity Series of Boston on Sunday. Socialized medicine, taxidermy, matchmaking, and foreign idiosyncrasies were only a few of the topics covered in his wide-ranging, hilarious essays.

The second annual Melbourne Cabaret Festival (Tuesday 19 to Sunday 24 July) today announced its professional development program which runs alongside it.

The iconic Melbourne cabaret venue The Butterfly Club today announced a change of ownership into a safe pair of hands.

The 2011 Melbourne Cabaret Festival welcomes its new Chair-elect, Ron Dobell. Ron has extensive experience in risk management and corporate governance, has served as a Director and Chair of several organisations, and together with his wife Margaret is well known in the arts community for his passionate support of the sector.

The 2011 Melbourne Cabaret Festival will take place Tuesday 19 to Sunday 24 July, again centred in the historic Emerald Hill Arts and Cultural Precinct, South Melbourne. This follows the successful inaugural festival in July this year, and the re-commitment of all sponsors.

With no hire fee, The Butterfly Club is Melbourne's most accessible venue for new and experienced performers, particularly those presenting brand new shows where the risks are highest.

The cabaret version of the world's most successful showcase event, Short+Sweet, has been rejuvenated with the appointment of a new Festival Director and the launch of submissions for its 2010 season.

Submissions are now open for the cabaret version of the world's most successful showcase event, Short + Sweet. Short Sweet+Cabaret will be held at Chapel Off Chapel in Prahran from Thursday 12 to Sunday 22 November 2009.
