Sheffield Theatres Adds QUEEN COAL to Season

Sheffield Theatres' Artistic Director Daniel Evans today announces the final production in the Theatres' autumn season, the world premiere of Bryony Lavery's Queen Coal directed by Robert Shaw Cameron, alongside the news that in an unprecedented development for the company, they will take three of their productions in the forthcoming season on tour, enabling their work to reach as wide an audience as possible.

The NATIONAL NEW PLAY NETWORK (NNPN), the country's alliance of non-profit theaters that champions the development, production, and continued life of new plays, proudly announces that the 2014 Smith Prize Commission, which carries an Award of $5,000, has been awarded to Chris Weikel for The Word from Kampala. Awarded annually to a proposal for a play that dramatizes the pressing issues of our times, The Smith Prize is funded by a gift from screenwriter, novelist and playwright Timothy Jay Smith and a number of other socially-conscious donors. The Word from Kampala was conceived in reaction to the recent act of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, who signed into law a bill that makes acts of homosexuality punishable by life imprisonment.
RLTP's Buffalo Young Writers Night to Spotlight Local Student Playwrights, 5/21

Road Less Traveled Productions (RLTP) will present its fifth annual Buffalo Young Writers Night on Wednesday, May 21 at The Road Less Traveled Theater at the Market Arcade Film & Arts Centre. Doors open at 7:00 pm with performances beginning at 7:30 pm. The evening will feature winners of the 2014 Buffalo Young Writers contest (or BYW), recognizing outstanding student playwrights in the WNY area. RLTP launched its Buffalo Young Writers contest in the fall of 2009 by giving high school and college student writers and playwrights the opportunity to submit their work for the chance of a professionally produced presentation.

Webb And Heap Take Over In JEEVES AND WOOSTER: PERFECT NONSENSE!

Comedy stars Mark Heap and Robert Webb will head to the West End to play the roles of Jeeves and Wooster in the five-star hit Perfect Nonsense taking over from Stephen Mangan and Matthew Macfadyen from 7 April 2014. Mark Hadfield will continue in the role of Seppings alongside Heap and Webb.

The landmark satire CLYBOURNE PARK is simultaneously a prequel, sequel, and modern commentary on the American theatre classic A Raisin in The Sun, spanning fifty years in the history of one much-contested house in a constantly evolving suburb. The musical "McGoldricks' Thread" sowed up three major awards at the closing ceremonies last night of the sixth Origin's 1st Irish Theatre Festival, held at Papillon Bistro & Bar, 22 East 54th Street. The crowd-pleasing show, brimming with Irish step dancing performed by a youth-dominated cast, won for Best Production, and Best Direction for Kira Simring. The production also was honored with the Festival's Special Jury Prize.
