Alliance Theatre Announces New General Manager, Mike Schleifer

After conducting a thorough national search, the Alliance Theatre has announced that Mike Schleifer has been chosen as the new General Manager of the Alliance Theatre, beginning March 3, 2014. Schleifer steps into the position left vacant by Max Leventhal, who served the Alliance for 10 seasons before transitioning to the role of Owners' Representative to the Woodruff Arts Center in September, 2013. Schleifer brings to his new role 19 years of theatre management experience in a variety of company leadership and stage management positions.

THE SCHOOL FOR LIES Heats Up Park Square, Beg. Tonight

Park Square cracks the ice of winter with a wickedly funny satire inspired by Moliere's The Misanthrope. THE SCHOOL FOR LIES by David Ives (whose Venus in Fur was nominated for a Tony Award in 2012) storms the stage in a production led by Amy Rummenie, Artistic Director of Walking Shadow Theatre Company, in her Park Square directing debut.

Kitchen Theatre to Present David Ives' VENUS IN FUR, 1/22-2/9

It may be cold outside, but inside the Kitchen Theatre Company it is hot, hot, hot. Starting on January 22nd is David Ives' Tony Award-winning Broadway hit Venus in Fur, a comedy about sexual power, power plays, and the power of Love - the Goddess of Love, that is. The New York Times called it '90 minutes of good, kinky fun.' Preview performances are on January 22, 23, and 24. Opening Night is January 25th, and the play closes February 9.

Rufus Collins and Amanda Drinkall Set to Lead Goodman Theatre's VENUS IN FUR

Goodman Theatre heats up 2014 with Venus in Fur-a "smart, sexy, sinister comedy" (Vogue) and "suspense-packed study of the erotics (and the semiotics) of power" (New York Times)-penned by theatrical mastermind David Ives. In her Goodman mainstage debut, Joanie Schultz directs the Chicago premiere production of the Broadway triumph that earned two Tony nominations, two Drama League nominations and a Drama Desk nomination. Rufus Collins (Broadway's The Royal Family and To Be or Not To Be) portrays playwright/director Thomas Novachek and Amanda Drinkall (Great Expectations at Strawdog Theatre Company, Measure for Measure at the Goodman;) portrays Vanda Jordan-the preternaturally talented actress whose audition for the gifted-but-demanding playwright/director's new work becomes an electrifying game of cat and mouse that blurs the lines between fantasy and reality, seduction and power, love and sex. The design team includes Todd Rosenthal (set), Mikhail Fiksel (sound), Jenny Mannis (costumes) and Keith Parham (lights). Alden Vasquez is the production stage manager and Kathleen Petroziello is the stage manager. Headshots and bio information can be found in the Press Room. VENUS IN FUR Playwright David Ives Boards Creative Team of Broadway-Bound HOUDINI

A representative for the show has confirmed to BWW that VENUS IN FUR playwright, David Ives, will write the book for HOUDINI. Ives has been attached to the project for a number of months, as first reported by BWW earlier this year in a video interview with Jack O'Brien. Aaron Sorkin had previously signed on to pen the production, but withdrew in January due to scheduling conflicts.

In conjunction with its upcoming production of David Ives' sexy Broadway hit comedy Venus in Fur, Huntington Theatre Company will host a number of special post-show conversations and fun experiences. BWW Special: 2013 Year in Review

Coolidge Corner Theatre & Huntington's STAGE & SCREEN to Continue with SECRETARY, 1/6

Stage & Screen, a collaboration between Coolidge Corner Theatre and Huntington Theatre Company that explores the depictions of shared themes in Huntington productions and acclaimed films continues its second season of collaboration on Monday, January 6 at 7pm with Secretary starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and James Spader. The screening will be followed by a conversation moderated by Boston Globe columnist Meredith Goldstein with Venus in Fur director Daniel Goldstein and actors Andrea Syglowski and Chris Kipiniak.

Performance Schedule: Irving Berlin's White Christmas opens Today, December 13, 2013 and continues through December 29. Performances continue nightly at 7:30 PM (except Dec. 16, 23, 24, 25). There are also Saturday matinees (Dec. 14, 21, 28) at 2:00 PM and Sunday matinees Dec. 15, 22, 29) at 2:00 PM.
