STAGE TUBE: On This Day for 3/23/15- AIDA

Today in 2000, Aida opened at the Palace Theatre, where it ran for 1852 performances. Aida is a musical with music by Elton John, lyrics by Tim Rice, and book by Linda Woolverton, Robert Falls, and David Henry Hwang. Aida was nominated for five Tony Awards and won four Tony Awards in 2000, including Best Musical Score and Best Performance by a Leading Actress. Aida was also named by Time Magazine in 2000 as one of the top ten theatre productions of the year. The First National tour was nominated for nine National Broadway Theatre awards (now 'Touring Broadway Awards') and won five awards, including Best Musical, Best Direction, Best Actor, and Best Actress.

Covenant House Youth to Join Broadway Stars in CROSSING BRIDGES Play Festival This Weekend

The theatrical result of a unique international partnership between New York's Covenant House International and The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London will be showcased this month at the star-studded Crossing Bridges Play Festival in Manhattan. The event, which is being held at the HELEN MILLS Event Space and Theatre on Sunday 22 March 2015, has also been made possible thanks to a line-up of Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winners and nominees, all of whom have generously donated their time and talents to the project.

BWW Reviews: Cultural Divides in ArtsWest's CHINGLISH

The message of a cultural divide, sometimes hilarious and sometimes tragic, is there in ArtsWest's current production of David Henry Hwang's "Chinglish" but it just needs to settle into a more concise telling of the story. I'm sure it will settle in over time but there was just a lack of pacing as if the actors weren't quite sure of their next line. But that's fairly understandable as about half of the play is in Chinese.

ArtsWest to Stage Seattle Premiere of CHINGLISH, 3/5-29

ArtsWest has announced the Seattle Premiere of Chinglish, penned by renowned playwright, librettist and screenwriter, David Henry Hwang. Described in the New Yorker as 'the most successful Chinese-American playwright this country has produced', David Henry Hwang may be best known for his Tony-winning play M. Butterfly (1988), but is also noted for writing insightful satire, often laced with his own quick wit.

Preview San Francisco Opera's DREAM OF THE RED CHAMBER World Premiere This Weekend
