Chicago Shakespeare Theater launches the 2013 tour of Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks with its official opening at Eckhart Park. Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks will bring performances of The Comedy of Errors FREE FOR ALL to 18 neighborhood parks across Chicago through August 25. Twenty thousand people of all ages are expected to attend during the run. The opening is set for Sunday afternoon, July 28, 2013 at Eckhart Park (1330 W. Chicago Ave).

Chicago Shakespeare Theater (CST) announced today the complete casting for William Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors, this summer's Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks production touring FREE FOR ALL to neighborhood parks across Chicago, July 26-August 25, 2013. Chicago Shakespeare Theater, the City of Chicago, Chicago Park District and leaders of Chicago's corporate community have partnered to expand the Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks program, after its inaugural success in 2012. This summer, Chicagoans will have direct access to their City's cultural resources with a choice of 26 free Shakespeare performances presented in 18 different neighborhood parks.

One of the most hotly anticipated new musicals from Broadway, 9 to 5, The Musical comes to the Marriott Theatre, 10 Marriott Drive in Lincolnshire, beginning August 14, opening August 21 and running through October 13. Based on the smash 1980 film, 9 to 5, The Musical is the hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the rolodex era. The musical features the blockbuster title song plus a jubilant Tony Award-nominated score by multi Grammy Award-winner Dolly Parton and a book by original screenwriter Patricia Resnick, The Marriott Theatre production will be directed by 11 time Jeff Award-winner David H. Bell with choreography by Matt Raftery.

From Humboldt Park to Garfield and Loyola Park to South Shore, this summer's Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks will break down barriers to arts participation and give Chicagoans direct access to their City's cultural resources by bringing 27 free Shakespeare performances into 18 different neighborhood parks.

Jujamcyn Theaters and True Colors Theatre Company (Kenny Leon, Co-Founding Artistic Director) have announced that Thembisile Gxuluwe from West Mifflin Area High School near Pittsburgh has won first place at the 5th Annual August Wilson Monologue Competition held on Monday, May 6th at at the August Wilson Theatre (245 West 52nd Street). Pablo Lopez from Los Angeles was the runner-up, and an honorable mention went to Branndin Phillips-Laramorefrom Chicago. The event, which was free and open to the public, featured high school students from Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh and Seattle performing monologues by the late, legendary American playwright.
