This past Friday night the Kiryat Motzkin Theatre Hall opened its 9th season of the successful classical series 'Classical Excitement', led by music director Gil Shohat, which truly lived up to its distinguished reputation.
Pedro 'n' Pip is a raucous, uplifting rock 'n' roll odyssey about a tenacious ten-year-old girl, named Pip, and a 'rockoctopus', Pedro, who she meets while scuba diving after an oil spill in the Gulf.
A 9th season, new and bold, of the north's successful music series, from the conductor, composer and pianist Gil Shohat. For the first time the season will host the singer and artist David Broza along with his best songs, will unite Israeli theatre queens Leah Koenig and Miriam Zohar in a conjoint show, will present Swan Lake with the Israel Ballet as well as a major virtuosi show, a show of songs by Ehud Manor sung by the country's greatest singers and a choirs show with famous chorales from Italian operas. Such a season has never been before!
Actor, vocalist and activist Theodore Bikel died July 21, 2015 at age 91 in Los Angeles. He will be remembered in a memorial concert in New York City, titled 'Remembering Theo - an evening of music, laughter and love,' September 27 in The Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College (68th Street between Park and Lexington Ave.). The evening will feature musical performances by many of Bikel's friends and treasured colleagues.

On Wednesday June 5, Awad welcomes from Israel the singer-songwriter David Broza; on Thursday June 6, the New York-based percussionist Shane Shanahan joins Awad, and on Friday June 7, Ernie Hammes, the trumpeter from Luxembourg, makes a special appearance.
