THE WHIPPING MAN Begins 1/23 at Kitchen Theatre

In 1865, the Jewish holiday of Passover began the day after Robert E. Lee's surrender at Appomattox. This historical moment is the jumping off place for Matthew Lopez's suspenseful Civil War drama The Whipping Man, which receives its Central New York premiere at the Kitchen Theatre in downtown Ithaca this month. The Whipping Man runs from January 23rd through February 10th, with preview performances January 23-25, Opening Night on January 26, and the closing performance on February 10.

The Obie Award-winning The Play Company (INVASION!, ENJOY) will present the U.S. premiere of the play WORKING ON A SPECIAL DAY, with previews beginning January 10, 2013, prior to an official opening night on January 16, at 59E59 Theaters (59 E. 59 St.) in Manhattan.

This month, Broadway's Matt Dickson (who just finished a run in Lincoln Center's War Horse and also appeared in all three parts of The Coast of Utopia) will direct the premiere of THE MAN-MADE ROCK, a dramatic comedy which will run from tonight, December 7-16 at the 4th Street Theatre.

Brian Dykstra Premieres New Work at the Kitchen Theatre, 11/28-12/16

And now for something completely different! The next offering on the Kitchen Theatre's 22nd Main Stage season is a world premiere by award winning playwright, actor and HBO Def Poet Brian Dykstra*. A solo performance that combines standup comedy with storytelling, rabble rousing and down-home preaching, Brian Dykstra Selling Out runs November 28th to December 16th at the Kitchen Theatre in downtown Ithaca. Previews are November 28, 29, and 30, Opening Night is December 1st, and performances continue through December 16, 2012.

Abingdon Theatre Company is pleased to announce that performances have resumed for its world premiere of MARCH MADNESS by Mike Vogel, with previews returning as of 7pm on Thursday, November 1, at the Abingdon Theatre Company's Dorothy Strelsin Theatre (312 West 36th Street). Donald Brenner (DECEMBER FOOLS) directs the production which is set to open Sunday, November 4.

Have I Got A Girl For You, winner of Theatermania's 2012 FringeNYC Audience Favorite Award, has been selected for the 2012 New York International Fringe Festival's Encore Series. Out of the festival's 187 productions, Have I Got A Girl For You received more votes than any other production in the Audience Favorite category and is one of only nineteen shows selected for the Encores Series. Performances begin September 13 at The Player's Theatre Mainstage.

According to Ennis King, the older brother in Nathan Louis Jackson's Broke-ology that opens for previews at the Kitchen Theatre on April 4th and runs through April 22nd, he has developed a new scientific theory. As Ennis explains to his younger brother Malcolm, "Broke-ology…is a complex new science that examines two things. One, being broke. Two, staying alive despite your brokenness." Ennis and Malcolm are experts in broke-ology, and their situation is complicated by their aging father William's quickening decline. Poverty, the American dream and the ties that bind a family together are brought into focus in this new play.

In LIFELINE, when good-hearted Pete rents his basement to depressed, unstable Ken, there seems to be potential for a wonderful friendship. But, as he delves into Ken's world, Pete uncovers problems that might not be solved with a game of poker and a six-pack.
