SEX IN MOMMYVILLE Industry Readings Set for 2/20-21

Anna Fishbeyn's Sex in Mommyville directed by David Elliott, will get a staged industry reading on Thursday, February 20 and Friday, February 21 at the Peter J. Sharp Theatre (416 W 42nd St).

The Pearl to Stage NO EXIT, 2/25-3/30

The Pearl Theatre Company continues its 30th anniversary season-the second season in its new home on West 42nd Street-with a new production of No Exit by Jean-Paul Sartre, adapted from the French by Paul Bowles. Linda Ames Key, making her Pearl debut, directs this touchstone of French existentialism in its first Off-Broadway production in over 15 years. The cast includes Pearl Resident Acting Company (RAC) member Jolly Abraham as Inez and Pearl RAC member Branford Cover as Cradeau along with Sameerah Luqmaan-Harris as Estelle and Pete McGilligot as Valet.

Nude Model Mystery HUMAN FRUIT BOWL to Transfer Off-Broadway, Beg. 3/27

After winning the FringeNYC Overall Excellence Award and the Creative Award for Best Production at Prague Fringe Festival, HUMAN FRUIT BOWL makes the leap to Off-Broadway. This acclaimed portrait of live nude modeling is written by Andrea Kuchlewska, performed by Harmony Stempel, and directed by Jessi D. Hill. Presented by Baruch Performing Arts Center in association with terraNOVA Collective & soloNOVA Arts, performances of this limited engagement begin previews March 27 at The Rose Nagelberg Theater. Opening night is slated for March 30.

Dramatists Guild of America Teams with Kyle Ewalt and Michael Ian Walker for DG Conservatory, 2/11

For the first DG Conservatory of the new year, the Dramatists Guild is thrilled to team up with the writers who created Behind the Music-al, Kyle Ewalt and Michael Ian Walker, on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. The event will take place at the Dramatists Guild's New York office, in the Frederick Loewe Room, 1501 Broadway (between 43rd and 44th Streets), Suite 710. This free seminar is opening a limited number of seats to the public and reservations are required.

The Chocolate Factory to Present Remix of UNCLE VANYA, Mallory Catlett's THIS WAS THE END, 2/21-3/5

The Chocolate Factory is pleased to present the world premiere of Catlett's This Was The End, a performance in which four actors in their sixties and seventies attempt each night to get to the end of Uncle Vanya-in a last ditch effort to alter the outcome. In Chekhov's play, Vanya asks, 'What if I live to be 60?' This Was The End performs an answer. It uses the play to pose questions about how memory functions in the formation of the future. The cast features veteran downtown luminaries Black-Eyed Susan (Ridiculous Theater & John Jesurun) as Sonya, Paul Zimet (Living Theater & Talking Band) as Vanya, Jim Himelsbach (OBIE for The Foundry's Talk) as Astrov and Rae C Wright (OBIE for Sustained Excellence with The New York Street Theatre Caravan) as Yelena.

NYC Premiere of Emily Schwend's TAKE ME BACK Set for Walkerspace, 2/28-3/22

Kindling Theatre Company has announced the World Premiere of TAKE ME BACK, written by Emily Schwend and directed by Jay Stull. TAKE ME BACK begins performances on Friday, February 28 for a limited engagement through Saturday, March 22. Opening Night is Wednesday, March 5 at 8 PM. The performance schedule is Wednesday - Saturday at 8 PM, with added performances on Monday, March 3 and Tuesday, March 4 at 8 PM. Daniel Breaker to Join THE BOOK OF MORMON Cast as 'Mafala' in February

Tony nominee Daniel Breaker just announced via Twitter that he will soon join the cast of THE BOOK OF MORMON as tribal chief 'Mafala.' He writes: I'm pleased to join the @BookofMormon this Feb on B'way!!! Come see me play Mafala in this absolutely hilarious show!!! #LoveMormon'. Breaker will replace original cast member Michael Potts.

THE CORRESPONDENT, With Thomas Jay Ryan, Begins Performances Tonight at Rattlestick

Rattlestick Playwrights Theater's Artistic Director David Van Asselt and Managing Director Brian Long have announced that Ken Urban's The Correspondent, directed by Stephen Brackett will begin previews tonight, January 29, 2014, at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, 224 Waverly Place, west of Seventh Avenue South, between West 11th and Perry Streets. The official opening night is set for Thursday, February 13, 2014. The Correspondent is scheduled to run through Sunday, March 16.

Mia McCullough's SINCE AFRICA to Open Off-Broadway Next Month

SINCE AFRICA, a new play by Mia McCullough about a Lost Boy of Sudan-- both lost in his native land and lost as he attempts to adjust to his new home in America - will be given its NY premiere following successful productions at San Diego's Old Globe, Philadelphia's InterAct, and Chicago Dramatists theatres with performances starting February 20 and an official press opening on February 23 in a production by New York's Red Fern Theatre Company at The Theater at the 14th Street Y (344 E. 14 St. between 1st and 2nd Ave. in NYC). The play is directed by Nancy Robillard.

Directed by Gaye Taylor Upchurch, Bethany will run today, Jan. 25 - Feb. 23, 2014 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. DAYLIGHT PRECISION to Run 2/21-3/16 at TNC

'Daylight Precision' by Douglas Lackey takes us back to World War II and into the great moral controversies involving strategic bombing. Should we bomb cities, or military targets? The United States began by avoiding cities but ended up destroying them. Lackey shows how the change came about by tracing the careers of Generals Haywood Hansell and 'Bomb them back to the Stone Age' Curtis LeMay. Lackey writes, '700,000 civilians lost their lives because Hansell lost his command to LeMay. Hansell is the unsung tragic hero of World War II.' Theater for the New City will present this new work February 21 to March 16, directed by Alexander Harrington.

MTWorks Gives Voice to Wildlife Victims of Gulf Oil Spill in DARK WATER

MANHATTAN THEATRE WORKS (MTWorks), in association with the Theater Series at the 14th Street Y, are pleased to announce the world premiere of MTWorks Co-Artistic Director David Stallings' DARK WATER, directed by Heather Cohn (FringeNYC Excellence Award for Outstanding Direction for Other Bodies). In DARK WATER, the swampland of Louisiana is hit with the most massive oil spill known to history. Barnacle, an old sea turtle, fights against man's destruction, nature's wrath, and her enemies of the wild to save her children trapped in the spill. Poetry, allegory, music, puppetry and movement create this magical world as the animals of Louisiana face the ultimate threat to their lives.

Theatre at St. Clement's hosts the World Premiere of The Clearing, written by Jake Jeppson (Jerome Fellowship recipient) and directed by Josh Hecht (Drama Desk Award winner for Christine Jorgensen Reveals). The Clearing runs Off-Broadway now through February 9, 2014. Previews began January 15 for a January 19 opening.
