New City, New Blood Reading Series Continues On 4/6

For 35 years, Pulitzer Prize winning THEATER FOR THE NEW CITY has nurtured hundreds of playwrights through its EMERGING PLAYWRIGHTS PROGRAM. In June, 2006, we launched NEW CITY , NEW BLOOD, a play reading series designed to serve our audiences and writers even better.

Cupcakes & Performances Set For TerraNOVA Benefit 4/2

terraNOVA Collective is set to host an evening to benfit terraNOVA Collective Thursday, April 2 at DR2 Theatre and D-Lounge 103 East 15th Street. This extra special evening will begin with a Welcome Reception at 7pm in the DR2 Lobby with chocolate and desserts from some of New York?s finest bakeries including Magnolia Bakery & Tonnie?s. The Mainstage Performance will begin at 8pm in the DR2 Theatre. Performances will include Roger Bonair-Agard (HBO's Def Poetry Jam) and previews from the upcoming 2009 soloNOVA Arts Festival, including: Preston Martin (Fun Design with Svelte) and magician Jeff Grow (Creating Illusion). Concluding the performances, packages will be up for sale including tickets to some of the hottest Broadway shows as well as NY & NJ sporting events.

Help Gringold Group Pick A New Name For Project Shaw

Well, coming up with the name 'Project Shaw' wasn't particularly original back in 2006. It certainly wasn't the first NY theatre project and they just keep coming. In fact, one is hard-pressed to find anything that isn't a project around NY these days.

KING HENRY V Comes to Arizona Theatre Co. March 26-29

Arizona Theatre Company is proud to present The Acting Company/Guthrie Theater production of William Shakespeare?s KING HENRY V. Considered by many to Shakespeare?s greatest and most exciting history play, it tells the story of one of England?s most inspiring monarchs and his triumphs in war, politics and love. A touring co-production of two of America?s Tony Award-winning theatre companies, KING HENRY V plays in Phoenix at the Herberger Theater Center for five performances only from March 26 through March 29. It continues its run in Tucson at the Temple of Music and Art for an additional five performances from April 2 through April 5. Arizona Theatre Company?s Season Underwriters are I. Michael and Beth Kasser and the production sponsor of KING HENRY V is Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

Abigail Nessen Bengson's Solo Performance 4/10 At La MaMa

La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club presents Abigail Nessen Bengson's whirlwind one-act solo performance, The Magic Show: The Story of the Barefoot Angels, at their downtown theater (74A East 4th Street) for a strictly limited engagement beginning Friday, April 10th. Performances run weekends through April 19th.

IN SECURITY Previews At 3LD Art And Technology Center 4/17

Unbound Collective will present the World Premiere of IN SECURITY beginning previews April 17th at 3LD Art and Technology Center. Written and performed by Anna Gutto with interactive videos by Ann Oren and directed by Alexis Poledouris, this show seamlessly blends live performance with animation and film. Opening night is slated for April 22.

Goldberg, Jones, Schreiber & More Headline UN Concert 3/25

Producing Artistic Director Allan Buchman has announced that it will present a special one-night-only theatrical concert event, Breaking The Silence, Beating The Drum, on the floor of the General Assembly Hall. This unique event will take place on Wednesday, March 25th, 7:30 p.m. - ?International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade' - marking the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade, and the widespread abuses of human trafficking.

Drama of Works Celebrates 10th Anniversary with PUPPET KAFKA, Limited Engagement begins April 22 at HERE In celebration of its 10th Anniversary, Drama of Works will present the World Premiere of PUPPET KAFKA. Directed by Gretchen Van Lente, this new play by B. Walker Sampson is based on the life and work of Franz Kafka. Previews begin Wednesday, April 22nd at HERE Arts Center with opening slated for Sunday, April 26th.

Second Stage Theater Announces 2 Plays For Uptown Series

Second Stage Theatre (Carole Rothman, Artistic Director; Ellen Richard, Executive Director) has announced the two plays which will be presented as part of the company's seventh annual Second Stage Theatre Uptown Series this summer: Zakiyyah Alexander's 10 Things To Do Before I Die, directed by Jackson Gay, and Lila Rose Kaplan's Wildflower, directed by 2008 Callaway Award winner Giovanna Sardelli.

HAIR 'Lets the Sun Shine In on Broadway', Previews Begin March 6, 2009

Oskar Eustis, Artistic Director of The Public Theater, has announced the 26-member Broadway cast of HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical. Newcomers to the cast include Gavin Creel, Caissie Levy and Sasha Allen, who join the rest of the tribe, who are reprising their roles from Central Park last summer. HAIR begins preview performances on Friday, March 6 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th Street, NYC) with an Opening Night set for Tuesday, March 31, 2009.

Swados' KASPER HAUSER Opens at The Flea 2/28

The Flea Theater presents the World Premiere of KASPAR HAUSER: a foundling's opera, a music-theater piece by Tony-nominee and Obie-winner Elizabeth Swados and Erin Courtney of 13P. Commissioned by The Flea in 2006, the piece marks Swados return to The Flea, where she previously wrote, composed and directed the long-running hit JABU. Performances of KASPAR HAUSER begin previews on February 13th, with opening night set for February 28th.
