According to a report from Deadline.com, CBS has bought a comedy penned by actor Aasif Mandavi.

New Georges (Susan Bernfield, Artistic Director; Sarah Cameron Sunde, Associate Director; Jaynie Saunders Tiller, Managing Director) will present the World Premiere of Sylvan Oswald's Nightlands.

Charlotte Street Foundation is pleased present a free First Friday show by Sir Threadius Mongus as part of their Threads EP release celebration, including the debut of new music and a new lineup featuring Jeff Davis (guitar and composition), Matt Otto (saxophones), Andrew McGhie (saxophone), Stanton Kessler (trumpet), Mike Stover (bass), and Jonathan Taylor (drums). A totalitarian state somewhere in the Arab world where all forms of theater have been banned is the setting for SABAB Theatre's The Speaker's Progress. Presented in its US premiere as part of the 2011 Next Wave Festival, this latest work from the Kuwait-based SABAB Theatre is a dark satire on the decades of hopelessness and political inertia that have fed recent revolts across the Arab region and a daring theatrical metaphor for the mechanisms of dissent.

The Winter Play Season at [Inside] the Ford kicks off with Lonnie Carter's OBIE award-winning The Romance of Magno Rubio in English - plus the world premiere of Ang Romansa ni Magno Rubio, a new translation into Tagalog. PAE Live! presents five performances each week, three in English and two in Tagalog, with both versions directed by translator Bernardo Bernardo. The Romance of Magno Rubio opens on November 4, and Ang Romansa ni Magno Rubio follows on November 5.

Theater Communications Group has announced the fourth annual Free Night of Theater New York City, which will take place at participating Off-Broadway, Independent Theaters, and Music and Dance venues in all five boroughs during the entire month of October 2011. This year's nominees represent 169 individual artists, 55 productions and 45 theatre companies. In 2011, the IT Awards had the most individual nominees than in any previous season with 169 nominees.

Rehana Lew Mirza's play BARRIERS is about a South Asian family's loss from the 9/11 attacks and the backlash they endure, featuring a cast that includes Pooja Kumar (Miss India USA 1995, 'Flavors') and Sunkrish Bala (ABC-TV's 'Notes from the Underbelly') and directed by Colette Robert.
