PlayFest Santa Barbara Festival Announces 2018 Events

PlayFest Santa Barbara, in partnership with the Santa Barbara Public Library, and with the support of a Community Arts Grant from the City of Santa Barbara and Santa Barbara County Office of Arts and Culture, presents the Sixth Annual Festival of New Plays. The staged reading of Steve Karp's Honoree Play, REUNION, will take place in the Santa Barbara Central Library on March 10 at 7p.m. REUNION was selected as the 2018 Honoree play following an international competition. E. Bonnie Lewis and Ken Gilbert of DramaDogs will perform the roles of He and She. Maggie Mixsell of Speaking of Stories, will narrate. Anna Jensen, former Ensemble Theatre dramaturge and current co-host of Theatrixsb podcast, will moderate a post reading talkback between the audience and the playwright. The reading is free.

New York Theatre Ballet To Perform In Tarboro, North Carolina, Edgecombe Community College Performing Arts Series

New York Theatre Ballet will return to Tarboro, North Carolina on March 22, 2018 at 7:30pm to perform in the Edgecombe Community College Performing Arts Series, bringing a program of mixed repertoire. NYTB has performed in the series annually for the past five years. Sponsored by the Furman Mathewson Trust of Edgecombe County Memorial Library, the performance is free, but reservations are required.

Blackfriars Theatre Welcomes Broadway's Rick Lyon

Blackfriars Theatre is thrilled to welcome Broadway's Rick Lyon to the creative process for their upcoming May production of the Tony-winning musical, Avenue Q. Mr. Lyon, who originated the role of Trekkie Monster/Nikkie in Avenue Q in the New York production, will join the Blackfriars cast for three days of puppeteering workshops. In addition, Mr. Lyon will be accompanied by the Broadway puppets, who will remain in residence at Blackfriars for the entire run of Avenue Q. That's right - Blackfriars Theatre will have the Broadway cast… well, the stuffed ones, that is.

CRUEL INTENTIONS Announces Final Extension, National Tour to Launch This Fall

Eva Price and Sucker Love Productions have announced the third and final extension of the hit New York Premiere engagement of CRUEL INTENTIONS - the new musical nightlife experience based on Roger Kumble's 1999 cult-hit film. The musical, which began as a ten-week run starting November 17, 2017, will now play twenty-one weeks and 112 performances by its conclusion on Sunday, April 8, 2018.

Sony Pictures has just released a new teaser for the highly-anticipated VENOM movie. One of Marvel's most enigmatic, complex and badass characters comes to the big screen, starring Academy Award® nominated actor Tom Hardy as the lethal protector VENOM. VENOM is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name, produced by Columbia Pictures and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing. It is intended to be the first film in Sony's Marvel Universe, adjunct to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film is being directed by Ruben Fleischer, from a screenplay by Scott Rosenberg, Jeff Pinkner and Kelly Marcel, and stars Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock / Venom, alongside Michelle Williams.

Dive head first into the month with three new releases from Arrow Academy beginning with legendary French filmmaker Henri-Georges Clouzot. In 1964, backed with an unlimited budget from Columbia Pictures, Clouzot set out to film L'Enfer. From the start the production was beset from a number of severe problems. Ultimately the film was never finished, but in 2009 directors Serge Bromberg and Ruxandra Medrea pieced together what footage there was and detailed the film's problematic journey in the semi-documentary Henri-Georges Clouzot's Inferno.

Broadway-Bound TOOTSIE Starring Santino Fontana Will Play Pre-Run in Chicago

Scott Sanders Productions announced today that the world premiere of the new comedy musical, TOOTSIE, will play a pre-Broadway engagement this fall at Broadway In Chicago's Cadillac Palace Theatre (151 West Randolph Street, Chicago, IL) from September 11 October 14. TOOTSIE will come to Broadway in spring 2019.

To reach an expanded audience, The Negro Ensemble Company, Inc. (NEC) will re-mount its 2017 revival of 'A Soldier's Play' by Charles Fuller, directed by Charles Weldon, from February 14 to March 4, 2018 at Gene Frankel Theatre, 24 Bond Street. The piece is historically NEC's most famous and successful play. It was produced last fall at Theatre 80 St. Marks as the culminating event of NEC's landmark 50th season, playing to full houses and glowing notices. The cast of that revival will return intact for the Gene Frankel Theatre run.

Due to popular demand, CRUEL INTENTIONS the new musical nightlife experience based on Roger Kumble's 1999 cult-hit film has extended a second time, adding an additional 4 weeks to its New York Premiere engagement. The musical, which began performances on Friday, November 17, 2017, opened on Monday, December 11 at downtown hotspot (le) Poisson Rouge (158 Bleecker Street), will now play through Friday, March 16, 2018.
