The Writers Guild of America, East today announced that Richard LaGravenese will be honored with the Ian McClellan Hunter Award for Career Achievement at the 68th annual Writers Guild Awards at the Edison Ballroom in New York City on February 13, 2016.

The Bridges of Madison County was a hit film in 1995 for Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood. The 2014 Broadway musical version with a gorgeous operatic score by Jason Robert Brown and stellar book by Marsha Norman is now playing at the Ahmanson downtown through January 17. When you look closely, there's so much to praise that it makes no sense whatsoever that the show closed early on Broadway and won only one Tony for Brown's music. It should have played on and on and walked away with a slew of awards.

Awakened in the middle of the night and called to the scene of a killing at a historic Savannah mansion, Chief Assistant District Attorney Dep Kirkland would be responsible for the decision to arrest antique dealer and Savannah aristocrat James Williams for murder for killing young Danny Hansford in an alleged gun battle with World War II German Lugers. This new book details the epic battles between the state and Williams's defense lawyers during the four trials and eight-plus years that followed. The subtitle of 'Lawyer Games: After Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil' references the book inspired by the crime, which spent more than 200 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and became a major motion picture directed by Clint Eastwood. This new book, which Kirkus Reviews calls 'A meticulous, intuitive, and riveting nonfiction work,' reveals the truth about the crime, including evidence never presented in a courtroom, told from the perspective of the author, who was at the scene and co-chaired Williams's first trial. Last night Cafe Carlyle welcomed back GRAMMY Award-winner Steve Tyrell for a four-week engagement and BroadwayWorld was there for opening night. The renowned singer returns with a new show, One More For The Road, featuring a full set of Sinatra favorites in celebration of Ol' Blue Eyes' 100th birthday. It's a fitting tribute since it was actually a Sinatra song, 'The Way You Look Tonight,' that Tyrell sang in the 1991 movie, Father of the Bride, which launched his career as a singer. Years later, the Sinatra family handpicked Tyrell to perform 'Fly Me To The Moon' at the Hollywood Bowl, with Quincy Jones conducting the orchestra, when the Chairman was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2005. Tyrell's ties to the Sinatra family remain tight as he was once again asked to host a three-hour celebration on Siriusly Sinatra on Frank's actual birthday, December 12. He will be live from Patsy's for Sirius XM radio, just as he did in 2014.
